Question I have been staying at my moms in the country with Keoki and it like the cat just tested positive for Giardia due to catching and eating voles and mice:(- I was thinking of taking my baby to get him tested today- just to be safe- do you think I should? Is it contagious from Cat to Dog? I know it is pretty contagious but my furbaby seems fine- just wanted to know what you thought- thanks so much! |
I meant to say her cat tested positive for Giardia |
It is contagious dog to dog so I imagine it would be contagious cat to dog. I quess it depends on what kind of contact they have it isn't airborne |
my littlest one tested positive for it and my oldest one. I had them tested after the oldest was sick with diarrhea and the little one start getting running poop. We have a stray cat that has been leaving little surprises on my deck and teasing my dogs slowly walking pass my patio door. A little while back I caught Chloe running around with a big piece in her mouth (yucky) and she must have ingested some. My vet said it was passed from the infected animals poop. So I would get your tested. I've had all their poop tested when they went in for the shots a few weeks ago and they were all clear before this happened. Now I have 4 dogs on medication. I have a 9 year old Maltese as well but he has never shown an interest in eating poop like Chloe. My vet said pups love it because it full of protein gross. So I'm keeping the little ones in the house now and washing my Maltese paws when he comes in. I've also disinfected with a bleach solution everything. I don't know how to keep the cat away so it doesn't happen again. I would like to catch it and take it to the human society so it can get vet care and a home. |
Thank you so much for your advice- unfortunately Keoki is a poopie eater :( I just called our pet insurance and found out I will get reimbersed if I get him tested. I appreciate the input- I hope your babies stay and feel better :) |
Yes if hes getting into the cat poop Id have him tested |
Yeah It sounds like a test would be the most sensible thing to do in this situation, I hope your furbaby is ok. |
Good luck in getting your little baby tested, I hope he's ok!! |
Yes it is and if it gets to the dog form it can be passed to the human. BUT if the cat has it, the illness cannot be passed to the human. My sons cats are going through it right now also. AND this is why their Aunt Mia cannot come visit. Hope everyone feels better and gets all well! |
