Bug bite? Chip was relaxing on his side and my husband noticed a small lump (about 1/2 of the size of a dime and raised a little) on Chip's leg and it looked like a very small spot of dried blood. It looks like a bug bite. He doesn't seem bothered by it other than a little itchy, but he doesn't seem in pain and he's acting totally 100% normal - still eating, playful, still drinking, etc. I gave him a little benadryl just in case of an allergic reaction and put some antiseptic cream on it. I don't really know what else to do other than to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get worse or infected. It doesn't look bad at all, but I'm a worry wart. I've looked all over the rest of his body and he looks fine. Any other suggestions? |
The bump that you described seems a little bigger than the bump that I found on Bailey. Last week, Bailey had bump - about the size of a mosquito bite; then a couple days later there was another one close to it. The groomer noticed it too and thought it might be allergies (she has yorkies too). She said that if it got worse, then I ought to go see a vet. I put some prescription poison ivy cream on it this weekend and it disappeared overnight. The bumps were located at the top of her right arm - so I put a onesie on her to cover the bump/cream so that she wouldn't lick it. I continued the cream over the weekend and both bumps are completely gone now. Anyhow, that's our bump story. Good luck! |
Noticed the same on Bridget this past weekend. It must have bothered her a bit because I caught her licking it a few times, but the rest of her behavior was normal - eating, playing, tormenting the cats! I just kept an eye on it - it didn't feel warm or swollen (other than what a bite would be). It was better the next day, and by the second day it was gone. I just figured since she's such a "low-rider" she either was bit by something in the ground or maybe got pricked by a weed in the yard. |
Thanks guys. I feel a little bit better now. It's not too terribly swollen and not warm to touch either. It did feel scaly a little bit, like dry skin, but not bad. I guess if it was going to bother him really bad it would have reacted a lot worse by now. |
