Acting different after we returned from vacation - is he sick?? We just got back from vacation after being gone for a week, and Rocco seems out of sorts. It almost seems like he's too quiet, and he is not eating much (although the weather has been HOT!), and isn't really playing as much. He still loves his walks, and is very happy to see us if we leave for a while, but is not as active as he was. His gums, eyes and tongue are normal pink, his bowel movements are pretty normal (just 1 or 2 "softies", not diarrhea), his skin is healthy and unbitten, his ears are good and clean. Could it just be that he's acclimating to us returning, or maybe he was a little "mad" at us? While we were gone, he was boarded at a place that he's groomed at and he's been to about 4 times for "daycare". He was only boarded from Saturday (7/3) to Wednesday morning (7/7), then my house/puppy sitter picked him up and was with him till we came home Saturday afternoon. Both said he did great. Sorry for the long post, but just want to cover what I can, and ANY help would be appreciated. I was thinking of bringing him to the vet, but there's really nothing specific to bring him for since he's not sick. Any ideas? OH, and one more thing. When I sent him for boarding, I supplied cooked chopped chicken to be used in case he wasn't eating the first day. I wrote instructions for her to add about 1tsp to his kibble if he needed encouragement to eat. Then when the sitter picked him up, she was told that he didn't eat a lot the past day because she ran out of chicken...??!! Apparently he needed it to eat while there. |
Poor little Rocco. I hope that he's just adjusting to being back home. I think that if it were me I'd bring him to the vet to get checked out. Could he have picked up a virus from the boarding facility? Hugs to Rocco. |

...and yet, then again, YES he could be a little out of sorts because you left and didn't come right home. My brother's dogs are like that when they have to be boarded...it takes them a few days to trust that he won't leave them again, and not come home. We are these little ones' whole center of their lives; when we go away and not come back for a few days, it gives them anxiety and insecurity feelings that they have to deal with, no matter where or how well they are boarded. After determining that your pups aren't sick, just love them up big time, and they'll bounce back. |

Yep, he's probably just mad at you for leaving him at home...Yorkies want to go on vacation too!! LOL! Well it's more likely that he is feeling a little insecure and out of sorts. It seems to me these soulful little dogs feel things more intensely. I've had many, many dogs of all kinds in my 48 years and i have never had one as sensitive as Mabel. I know it sounds nuts but i feel like Mabel really "gets me". My friends and family just don't know, they think i'm crazy!!! I'm not am i ??!! |
He is mad at you and wants more chicken! I know when I leave mine they pout and will not look at me for days. Then they come around. I would just keep a close watch on him. If he is drinking and eating a little I wouldn't worry to much right now. No vomiting/diareha? |
