Hacked-up pedicure Tonight I did the unthinkable-I cut my baby Connor's quick when trimming his nails! I feel like the worst Mom in the world right now because I hurt him and the nail is bleeding. DH ran to the store and got a stiptic pencil, but it doesn't seem to do much except hurt him more when I touch it to the nail. What can I use to keep it from bleeding again and for the pain I know he must be in from this trauma. |

21st Century Styptic Powder - Health Care - Dog - PetSmart and it stopped the bleeding. I always have it on hand just in case. He was mad at me for a while. He went to go sit in the other room by himself. After a little treat, he's now sleeping right next to me. |
Sorry to hear about your babies. I did the same to Cali years ago and she won't let me cut her nails anymore. I know you feel bad but you didn't mean it and they will forgive you. I think baking soda can be used but I'm not sure. |
Thanks guys! Actually I went to the search catagory and looked up bleeding nails, etc. I'm going to try putting flour or cornstarch on Connor's nail and next time I'm at Petsmart or Petsense I'll get some Quickstop. Y'all have helped me feel better, maybe not such a mean Mommy after all.:) |
I know it's hard not to feel bad when it happens, but it happens. Vets, techs, assistants, and groomers do it too. No worries. :) |
I did it too and never tried again. You aren't a bad mom. I hope he starts to feel better. |
Instead of running out to the store...perfect solution is right in most people's kitchen pantries...CORN STARCH! Just put some in a plastic baggie and dip the paw in it and hold till bleeding stops. Don't feel bad...we all have probably bled a quick at least once!:D |
You are not a bad mom! I won't even attempt to do my dogs toenails! |
I am too chicken to do my guys nails too. I will go so far as to get the nail clippers out and the minute I get it on their nail I chicken out. I take them the vet and let them do it, or let my DIL who is a vet tech do it for me. :) |
