Tried to eat a Daddy Long Leg? holy crap! I pretty much was beginning to think maybe she had eaten your retainer. This probably doesn't apply to Sadie, but sometimes you (people and dogs) can have serious diarrhea with a blockage. It is because liquid is the only thing that can get past the blockage. So, diarrhea doesn't necessarily mean that everything is flowing just fine. (no pun intended) |

Keep us updated Rachel! |
Aww, just now seeing this post. I hope everything is well with Sadie! |
Hope Sadie is doing better today!! |
she's eaten two little rounds of rice and chicken...she's perky she's asking to go outside with Bentley and she's went potty a couple times. she's barking and hopping off the furniture and coming to see what i'm doing....i think we are almost past this one but still going in with me to work tomorrow just to keep an eye on her with the vets nearby. thanks for the prayers. i think she's going to be fine. |

we're going back in. she's vomitting again. ate fine yesterday and today then started with that black tar like diarrhea and vomitting her food and water up. not holding much down. mike's mad due to costs, but it's time to find out what's up. |

So sorry that she is having problems again. Black tarry poop doesn't sound good :( I hope she isn't too sick and you can find out whats going on before you have to spend a fortune. You guys will be in our thoughts. |
I just read this and I will keep Sadie in my prayers for nothing too serious. Let us know when you are able how she's doing. Dyan |
Oh, Rachel, I am so sorry. I'll be praying for little Sadie. Please update us when you get back. |
Hugs for you and Sadie....Please keep us updated. |
well we went in and did radiographs at this point to rule out an obstruction and luckily nothing was present. she did one view to save us money, but she got a good enough shot to be sure it's not obstructed but it was inflammed and gaseous. she gave us cernia inj. again and this time we have meds to keep the anti vomiting going. we got some pepcid inj. and some pepcid meds for her take for the acid in her stomach to cool down. she got more SQ fluids. I asked for some of the probiotic packets to help her get some good bacteria in her tract. the vet defin. agreed that those will help. we're still on a bland diet. she said to try plain yougurt, scrambled egg whites, cottage cheese, rice and boiled chicken....we're working on feeding her prob. again tomorrow and once again let her rest her stomach. basically she's just got severe gastroenteritis. because she's drinking the vet is ruling out pancreatitis at this point. it's on the back burner in case we aren't getting anywhere else and she may have to go intraveinous fluids and blood work but at this point she's more sure it's gastro. keep praying she gets well soon. this is hard on us all. |
i also wanted to ask. DH mentioned on our drive to the ER again that we might be in for a lifetime of GI problems due to her coming from (his quote) "some guy named Marvin back yard breeding her) Would breeding have anything to do with GI problems?? She's always had a hard time with digestion and has had bacterial GI problems in the past. i don't think stomach issues have anything to do with breeding, but i had to ask. |
I'm so glad Sadie doesn't have an obstruction! I panicked when you said she had black tarry diarrhea. I hope the new meds help her feel better. These toy breeds have such delicate tummies. When my kids were young we had a Golden Retriever who could eat anything and never even burp. Within the first two months after I adopted Lady she ended up hospitalized with an IV for gastroenteritis. She was itchy after a professional grooming and tore out and swallowed a patch of hair. It cost me $600 ten years ago. Very expensive grooming! |

What are you feeding her? If it's raw it could account for her bacterial GI problems. Going forward, you might want to discuss a different diet with your vet, prescription or even homecooking. |

now we feed primal raw and it's much easier to take care of and keep clean surfaces and only thaw an ounce or two at a time for meals. i really don't believe this case was due to bacteria or raw food. i believe it's all on the corn and corn silks she ate. :( my fault totally and i really regret shucking corn onto the ground with the dogs outside.) |

I was just answering your question about breeding and digestive issues. Yorkies do tend to have a more delicate digestive system so if Sadie continues to have problems, it might be worth checking into a change in diet. |

i'm thinking maybe canidae or arcadia. maybe something along those lines. |
Praying for sadie Rachel, Just now read your thread, hope she is feeling better soon  |

How about half and half? Lady can't eat raw because of her diabetes, so I don't know that much about it. I think you can feed raw and commercial kibble as long as they aren't at the same meal, though, right? I have had to homecook for Lady for the past few years because of all her health issues, but I don't know if I would do it for a healthy dog. There are some wonderful commercial kibbles out there. Lady did really well on Natures Variety Prairie for years. |

sorry for the long shpeal. it's all about what we feel is right. same with raising children. what i think is best won't be what MIL or even my own mama think is best. but u do what you think is right because ur the mama in charge ;) if i ever have a reason to honestly believe raw food is causing upset stomach issues or bacterial infections for Sadie i'd stop doing it, but even the vets each time have said it was not the raw diet that caused the bacteria to develop and rather something else environmental. |

ladymom, i'm not upset...hopefully you don't think i am. i was just explaining why i like it. i do consider switching but i'd really hate to do so. sorry if i came across upset at all. i like you a lot and respect you quite a lot too. i don't feel threatened or anything and i know you are offering suggestions which i very much appreciate. i was just sharing with you what i feel about the raw and why i'm trying to keep at it. :D |
okay so no more throwing up so far, she ate her yogurt and some pro biotics mixed into it. then she ate chicken this morning and rice. she took her meds in a pill pocket (those are lifesavers) then she had a couple of bloody diarrhea bouts. they were getting more red and bloody so i called the vet back and we are starting on amoxicillan with the pro biotics should help clear that up. i also have cerenia and pepcid tabs for the anti vom. and the stomach acid. at least she appears to have a good appetite again and she's very energetic. i think we're getting there it's just a long road to wellness. |
Just wondering how Sadie is doing. Is she feeling any better? Please let us know! |
