New to forum/CT? Kennel Cough? Hello I am mom to "Paris" male age 10. He has been coughing for about a month on and off. I have read and watched the videos for the types of coughing. I really think it is kennel cough. My vet saw the video I sent him of Paris coughing and wants to do an xray thinking it is CT. I go in about an hour, so I'll let you know. He did not get the part of his vaccine for kennel cough last year. Because he never goes to dog parks or is boarded but he could have caught it in the doctors waiting room right? So glad to have this place to come to. I have been reading here for years but just recently joined. a vast amount of info. Thanks! |
That could be it however at age 10 it could also be heart related. I am wondering if CT would not have shown up by now? But that is why I am on here and not a vet. Hope you get good news today. BTW welcome to Yorkie Talk. |

At age 10, I doubt it is kennel cough. Vaccines give them immunity for years so it is unlikely skipping that part of the shot last year put him at risk. Please update us when you get back. |
He has been on a diet! He isn't a tiny yorkie he has always been around 11 lbs but after bladder stone surgery he gained to 13 lbs! Hopefully he has lost some weight since May his last visit. I'll see today. Thanks so far for the info. |

I added 2 phots of Paris in the Photo Gallery! |
UPDATE The vet said it was definately CT. He put Paris on antibotics and a cough pill. He said to keep him on it for two weeks. He says I caught it early and seems to think it could heal. Is that possible? I just have to keep him from coughing. |
xray I have a shot of his xray but it's too big to post. How do I make it smaller? |
xray here it is 1 Attachment(s) Attachment 321115 I'm not a doctor but this doesn't look too bad to me? Wishful thinking? The meds seem to be helping already. |
sorry I can't really tell by the picture. I know when mine had an Xray for CT it showed where the trachea collapse was and it was flatened out. They can do a lot with medicines to help them and keeping the weight down helps a lot. I hope the meds work well. |
-bump- EDIT: oops, Patti beat me to it. |
New pic of xray with pointer 1 Attachment(s) |
There is no fix for CT. It may progressively get worse with age. There are surgical procedures, but a low success rate on them. Preventing coughing lessens the damage that occurs from the cough. There are others medications available that may be of use if his symptoms become worse. Also, limit excitement, exercise, or any triggers of coughing. Update Paris seems to be doing ok on the torbutrol but I will not be able to afford $70 every 2 weeks. I am looking into other meds to discuss with the vet. He still only is coughing about three times a day but not with the severity he was before. |
