Please Help, is this normal? Lilly had her second set of shots yesterday, the vet said she would be feeling very tired and probably sleep most of the day, after bring her home and letting her nap for a few hrs. I went go pick her up all the sudden she let out this horrible screeching cry, it scared me to death. So I ended up craddling her all night and thought it would ease up this morning, but still everytime I go to pick her up, she starts crying big time :( it breaks my heart!! I know that when the vet gave her her shot she jump really high, could that have hurt her this bad or is it normal for her to be in this much pain?? :cry: |
I really wouldn't be too worried. Some furbabies are much more sensitive than others to shots. Harley is one of them. Do you know where they gave her the shot? That would help for you to know so you could avoid touching her there when you pick her up and cuddle with her. When Harley got his shots he was very sore for about 2 days and he had two visits instead of one bc I didn't want them giving him both shots @ the same time. And when he was fixed I had them administer his microchip and they put it in his shoulder and man was he sore! You could always call your vet and ask about giving her some baby asprin etc to help with her pain. (but make sure you call so you know how much to give her according to her weight & age) hope she feels better ASAP! |
Alot of times the medicine in the injection will 'knot up' in a close muscle (despite the shot only being under the skin) and slowly disperse rather than doing it quickly. (The same is true for humans.) Try to see if you can feel a knot where they gave her the shot...if she will let you...if so, try to rub it or hold a warm rag to it to help the medicine desperse. As long as she is still eating and just acting sore, I wouldn't be too concerned unless she keeps acting that way for a few days. |
poor baby!!!! i feel for you and your yorkie. I know the cry that you are taking baout. when Dollar feel off of the bed onto his hurt leg he yelled ans screamed for about a min and it is truly heart breaking.... :cry: |

Tiggers had that same reaction to every shot. I'd be afraid to even pick him up because I didn't want to hurt him. the first time he got his shots though he laid around all day and when I went to pick him up, he yelped so loud John(my bf) was like "what the heck happened??" it's sad I know, but now tigger only has one more shot session to go through and when he got his lyme and distemper this last time, it knotted up. but he didn't yelp hardly at all at home. I wouldn't worry. |
I would say she had a reaction to the shot. Jewels did the same thing after her bordatello shot. She also shook alot. She was fine by the next day. You could give 1/2 of a baby asprin for pain if you want to. |
dont worry its just where shes sore from the shots. Crunchy was real sensitive like that too for awhile after his vaccines, you just have to be careful how you handle her. after a few days she should be back to normal. good luck :) |
Same thing happened w/ Toby last week for his 2nd shots. She will be fine in a couple of days though!!! ;) |
Gucci had her shots a few weeks ago, although she was not in pain she had a lump where they gave her the injection. I was told to put a warm compress three xs a day for about 5 min. it went away in a few days.. Hope this helped... Gina |
Maddie was the same way after her shots - your furbaby should be fine in a few days. It is scary though!! |
Lacey was the same way. Except everytime she had her shots, she did not want nothing to do with you. She would hide behind the couch the rest of the day where you could not reach her. We could not even mention the word vet or medicine to her, she understood both! |
Cali was the same after her first shots with me. I told the vet the next time and they gave her some new drops that she said had just come out for pain control in little ones. Cali has had 2 shots since the first and was fine afterwards. The meds cost 2.00 and the vet gave them to her right after the shot and said it would last for 24 hours |

Yep, I was too. I have not had that kind of reaction but I give their vaccines sub-Q and always in the right hip. That way my hubby does not have to try to remember where the puppy might be sore. My vet does the same thing with toys or elderly dogs.. |
this is normal...Dollar got his first set of shots or Parvo and distemper yesterday and they said he would be sore too. And he was any time I picked him up he did the same thing. |
