Recommended Vets in NYC for Luxating Patella? I came home one day and noticed Baron was limping, but I figured he might have hurt it jumping down the sofa. And when we visited the vet, I was told that his knee cap on his left, hind leg has been shifting... luxating patella? The vet told me to come back for x-rays and said that he may need surgery that'll cost approximately $1400. I've been taking Baron to Howard Beach Animal Clinic these past 4 years. But I think I'd be more comfortable if i checked out another vet. Any suggestions? I tried a local animal hospital and they referred me to Long Island Veterinary Specialists. |
I'd recommend taking Baron to a board certified orthopedic veterinary surgeon. There is a vet finder by state on the ACVS website, but you will need a referral from your vet. American College of Veterinary Surgeons |
I like AMC a lot.... They are on York and 62nd... They do not require a referral AMC.org - Home |
I've never been to any specialist in the city but i have heard good things about AMC. Also i think member TLC has gone to Long Island Veterinary Specialists |
Thank you guys! :) We're not 100% sure its luxating patella though, we haven't gotten x-rays yet. Baron was only limping for a day or two. :/ |

If his knee cap is sliding, he more than likely has LP. That does not necessarily mean that he needs surgery. I would definitely do what everyone else has suggested! Good luck! |

Best of luck. I am currently giving my 2 Dasuquin supplement. Hot Rod had lp surgery and Maggie has a low grade 2 lp in one knee. Her vet said that she doesn't recommend surgery at this time. Good luck with your little one and thank goodness Baron doesn't need surgery. |
