MY RASCAL HAS PANCREATITIS...questions :( Had a rough week last week...last Monday I had a full abdominal hysterectomy, was in hospital for 3 days and during this time my little rascal was sick. I felt so helpless...I couldnt do anything! Hubby took em to vet last monday....vet said it was intestional infection. Rascal was running a 104 fever...gave meds and bounced back quickly. Fast forward--Friday nite he had another fever, NO VETS would answer their phone, had to rush him and hour away to an ER vet...got me for 337.00 and told me nothing...took him back to my vet yesterday morning and he told me it could possibly be pancreatitis...so he sent me and hour and a half away to the Univerisity of Tuskeegee Animal Hospital. VERY GOOD place. They told me Rascal was not dehydrated, he wasnt throwing up and they told me he had a mild mild case of pancreatitis. Sent us home with meds and some special food and said NO FATTY FOODS and just the food and boiled chicken and rice. He has perked up since he has had his meds, but will not eat that canned food at all. So my question is...what else can he have. I know the boiled chicken and the rice. He is eating the boiled chicken breast and eating it pretty good now, so is that ok until he gets better? They told me after 5 to 7 days, he can go back on his regular dry kibble, so is boiled chicken enough to feed his pancreas? Thank you for any help! Here is my little guy: http://i526.photobucket.com/albums/c...IES/rascal.jpg |
I can only say that wet and dry Iams Low Residue has worked great for us for years. Sorry about the bad luck, for both of you. How you all get better. |

thank you |
my dex had pancreatitis the boiled chicken and rice can be ok and hospital had dex on extra extra lean ground turkey and rice. Just feed smaller meals if you can like 3-4 times a day to rest his system. If he does not want to eat do not force it as many times they need to just rest the system. Most dogs with this are on iv fluids with no food or medicine through mouth for 48-72hrs did they confirm this diagnosis by cpli test or just a blood panel ? |

Hello, they did an ultrasound and bloodwork on my baby to determine his pracreatitis...He was not dehydrated or vomitting, and they let him go home. He seems to be doing a bit better, he is wanting to play a bit and he ate 2 pieces of his regular kibble, but I took it away from him (I have 2 other babies in the house) and I fed him boiled chicken. He has his appetite back. I have to continue the meds for 3 more days and take him back to vet next Wednesday for bloodwork to see how much its improving. He wont touch that ID canned food, so I guess I will continue to feed him chicken. I might get some turkey breast and see how that does...is that ok? After he gets his meds gone, they said I can return to his regular kibble. He only weighs a precious 5 pounds, so I hope he comes thru this like a champ! It just breaks my heart seeing him sick. :( |

did they run a cpli test as that is the only true test for pancreatitis and honestly the ultrasound is a waste of money I think as cpli determines if pancreatitis |
