Lyme Disease concern and questions As you know Daisy was diagnosed with lyme about 10 days ago. She is on doxcycline. She still is not herself.........sleeps alot and doesn't want to play much. She threw up today and then slept the rest of the day. She still is stiff in the right back leg. My question is to anyone that has been through this how long does it take for them to be themselves again. I am so worried about her she looks so pathetic at times. She does have bouts of energy but on the most part she is lazy. Daisy is one of those dogs that usually has tons of energy being part Jack russell. |
I am sorry that Daisy has to go through this.:( I wish I could help you. I had a scare with Lila last fall. We took her to the park and 2 days later noticed a tick on the top of her head it was a horrible time for us I remember waiting it out to see if she had Lyme disease. We are blessed she does not. Lila never showed any symptoms and they did a heartworm test a few months later to make sure. My vet also told me the parts of NY state it is rare to see this. Again I am sorry about Daisy your post is a reminder to what Lila could have faced had she had this. I hope you are able to connect with someone on YT who can help with this. |
Poor Daisy. Chipper had Lyme a few times in his lifetime. Usually within 48 hours of taking an antibiotic he seemed to be back to his old self. His fever was gone, he was no longer limping and appetite was back. I also have had Lyme a couple times and as soon as I started the antibiotic I felt a 100% better. Praying that Daisy is feeling better soon. |
Poor Daisy. :( Jackson was pretty much back to himself within 2 days. The pain meds made him sleepy (she gave him 7 days worth, and 30 days antibiotic) but other than that, he was fine! |
A girl I work with has a Pug with Lyme Disease (she was on Frontline Plus AND had the vax but still got it at the beach!)....anyway, she told me her dog was very lethargic during the treatment. I'm not sure how many weeks in she is at this point but if I see her tomorrow I will find out some more details. |
Daisy is feeling better today but she won't eat her food so I give her some chicken and rice so that I can at least give her her antibiotic. I am thinking that the antibiotic is making her feel sick bc she has always had a sensitive stomach. I wonder if I could give her pepcid ac to settle her stomach? I guess I am going to call the vet and see what they say. We have gotten to know eachother real well in the last month, I think I paid for his family vacation:eek: with all my vet bills:eek: |
You can try the Pepcid AC - I've used it when we have pancreatitis or just upset tummies from eating something we shouldn't (like when a couple of slices of pepperoni fell on the floor and Barney ate them). The dose I've used for Barney is 1/4 tablet (10mg pill) once a day and he is 9.5 lbs. Good luck, hope Daisy is feeling 100% back to normal soon. PS I know the feeling of getting to know your vets really well....Sigh..... |
Daisy just threw up again today! I don't get it I gave her pill on a full stomach and about 4 hrs after she took her meds she threw up everything in her stomach. Can pepcid ac be given with her doxcycline? I am so emotionally tired..after Pixie last night and Gidget and now Daisy. has anyone elses dog been sick with doxcycline? |

My heart goes out to you! I will say a prayer for Daisy that she starts feeling better soon! I wish I had advice, but I don't have any experience with this at all! Feel better Daisy!! |
I am bringing Daisy back to the vet she can't keep anything on her stomach and she is acting like something else is going on. Also her back leg is really bothering her. Her appointment is at 11:00 |
OMG keep us posted! |
I am so upset and heart sick, Daisy is in the hospital bc when they examined her. Her tummy was hard and she cried in pain. They think she could have a tumor or possible pancreatitis. I am just beside myself in worry right now. I cried the whole way home. I felt awful leaving her she looked at me and whined as I kissed her good bye. Please pray for her....I can't lose my Daisy she is such a special dog I am waiting for blood work results. |
OMG I am so sorry to hear this. I will PM you. |
