Reverse Sneezing... She wakes up having a fit of reverse sneezing....anyone ever have that problem. She acts fine all during the day!! |
One of mine has had the reverse sneezing before, but it came about more when he exerted himself. I don't recall him waking up like that. I have an older Lab with a heart murmur, and the vet has warned me to watch for him coughing when he wakes up, but it's not a cough likely to be confused with the honking of reverse sneezing. |
Edie has this periodically. The vet suggested benadryl, believe it or not. I have not done this, as the problem is not that frequent, and I don't know the dose. |
My malt will sometimes do it at night while sleeping she will wake up and reverse sneeze. I was afraid as it always happens at night while sleeping but vet said coughing in the middle of night is of worry as that is tied to heart probs and her heart is fine. I think it is maybe acid reflux which triggers it maybe. The best way to stop reverse sneeze is cover the nostrils and open the mouth it will re-direct the breathing and stop the reverse sneeze immediately |

Morgan has done this occasionally as well. sometimes the fit lasts 5-10 minutes even after i've tried methods to stop it. i asked the internal med vet i worked with about it and he also said benadryl could help, but since she's so small its not worth it. she hasn't had a fit in a long time but when she did i'd cover her nose and open her mouth, or give her a few treats to try to get her to stop. I'd also rub her chest and try to keep her calm because when they last a long time she gets nervous and upset. |
