Daisy has Lyme Disease!!!!! we took Daisy to the vet today bc her back leg was bothering her and the thought that it was a pulled muscle but they also ran a lyme test and it came back positive. Has anyone else had a dog that has had lyme? Daisy is my 6 yr old Jack-a-poo. |
My Chipper had Lyme Disease 3 times. The first time he was 5 months old. I was convinced that he got Lyme Disease from the Lyme vaccination. Everytime he was vaccinated a short time later he would get Lyme. After the 3rd time he got sick after getting vaccinated I decided he wouldn't ever get the vaccination again. He lived to be 13 and never got Lyme again. I will not allow Piper to get the Lyme vaccination. |
I think Brister's Jackson had it too. I am sending get well wishes and prayer to Daisy. |
I don't get the lyme vaccination either. Daisy got the lyme vaccination once when she was a yr old and got very sick so I said never again. I am just so glad that I suggested a lyme test bc I was researching what would make a dog stiff in her left back leg all of a sudden and I came up with lyme and then I though geeze I should have her tested. poor girl she can't go for walks for 2 weeks the vet said, she is going to go insane!! |
You live in Connecticut, right? You are in an area with an incredibly high risk for the disease. Lyme disease was named after Lyme, Connecticut! I moved from Dutchess County, New York just as Lyme disease was getting bad there, too. Sine then, everyone I know has had lyme disease as have their pets. |
Yup, Jackson had it, too. :( And was limping randomly on his back leg. Here was the thread I started, http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...e-disease.html They put him on antibiotics for 30 days and pain meds for 6 days. The limping went away 6 hours later and he was totally fine. :) |
Poor Daisy! Hope she feels better soon. Restricting activity for 2 weeks is going to be difficult. |
Poor Daisy, I hope things don't get to bad for her :( give her bigs hugs for me. |

Lameness in the hind legs are the number one symptom of lymes, good thing you got it taken care of! Did they put her on Doxycycline!? She will probably remain positive for lymes, however, dogs that show positive sometimes will never show signs of it. I know that the lymes vaccine is very up in the air, and some vets here in Delaware will not give it, if your dog shows postive for it. Good Luck, I'm sure she will be fine! |

What is worse being sick for a few days from the vacination or the actual disease?? Am I a bad Mom?? |
Oh poor Daisy! I don't have any experience with this, but I will keep positive thoughts for you!! |

The good news is that not everyone gets Lyme - We've never had it and neither have our dogs. We do not vaccinate for Lyme. A coworker's Pug has Lyme - she had the lyme vaccine and is on flea and tick prevention. She is being treated with doxycycline for 6 weeks. She is doing better. I sure hope Daisy get's better soon! I know you were already worried about her crystals!! |
Levi had Lymes disease as well. We are in Cape Cod Mass where there is a high incidence of Lymes disease. Britster got me through Levi's diagnosis as I was a nervous wreck.(thanks again Britster) After 30 Days of meds Levi is as good as new. My vet still does not recommend the vaccintion as it is not 100% affective and can make Lymes harder to treat if they do get it. I also keep Levi on Advantix year round....I still won't vaccinate. |
Sending hugs and well wishes to Daisy. :big_hug: |

It just made Daisy so sick and I could not imagine what it would do to Pixie's little body. Daisy's crystals are gone so that is a plus.......... now I have to deal with this, plus she has a vaginal bacteria infection due to all the licking when she had the crystals. Poor girl she is just a mess:( |
