lyme shot Hi everyone! haven't been on in a looooooong time...very busy! My little Lillie (5lbs) got a lyme shot yesterday....she is quite under the weather today. She is not her peppy self....I did speak with the vet assistant and she told me that this is normal....have any of you here experienced this? I feel so bad that I had her get this shot. I will NOT be going back for the second of the series as the vet told me it is more painful.... |
That can be normal for most vaccines. Are her gums pink? Moist? Is she pooping and peeing normally? Probably not much you can do but wait it out. If she is in pain, the vet can prescribe something. It doesn't sound like a reaction that Benadryl would help, but that may be worth a try. |
Actually we just got back from the vet. Lillie was having a reaction to the lyme vaccine. She has been very lethargic all day...wouldn't eat or drink, she was shaking and had a temp. The vet gave her a cortisone shot and had us sit and wait a bit....her temp started to go down. He gave her some nutri cal which she liked, and then some soft food....which she ate! very glad about this! She still isnt' back to normal but he said by morning she should be. I have never had something like this happen before. I had an appt for 2 weeks for Lillies second round of Lyme and Sadies first....both appts have been cancelled! they will NEVER get this shot again! |
Glad to hear she is doing better. :) I dont give Lyme to mine either. |

both of mine have had the lyme shot and I do not remember any type of reaction. If anything, they would have just been quiet as they usually are after getting any type of shots. And yes, the shot does not cover all lyme issues but we have such an abundance of ticks where I live, I thought it would be better than taking chances. |
Lille is almost 100% back to normal this morning like the vet said she would. I was SO worried about her. she is only 5lbs and a baby. the only reason I had her get the shot was because we go camping. My vet told me that a tick has to be on them for 3 days to get lyme. My cousins hunting dog got lyme disease and it was very painful for her. He ended up having to have her put down. However, he NEVER had her vaccinated either which wasn't to smart being that she is a hunting dog and running through the woods all the time. I was so angry! |
