HELP! Is this normal??????? Mee-kah was spayed on May 15. Yesterday was the first time i bathed her since her surgery, after a little while of her bath, i noticed a pink little pimple. I touched it, it didn't bother her. Today, i looked at it in the morning and its the same. After i get back from work today and check it, it looked PURPLE!!!!!???? Is this normal? What should i do? I am very worried.. Please let me know, should i call the vet???? She is acting normal, playing with Sharpie (my other dog) and when i touched it, it didn't seem to bother her. I don't know what to think, can any one give me some advice? Thanks for reading. |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 318264 Sorry i am so nervous i even forgot how to add pictures....(it literally took me a few minutes). |
I would call the vet as have had two girls spayed and neither had that and have never read about that so definitely get her checked out to be safe ouch i think my dd had dissolvable stitches or internal as i do not remember her having outside stitches call vet and have her checked |
Do you think i should get her in to emergency ?? now? Or wait till tomorrow? |
how come she still has sutures in? usually they get taken out 10-14 days after surgery. They don't look like disolvable ones to me. if they were they wouldn't be that perfect still this long after surgery. I'd take her to the vet to remove them and have that thing checked out. |

hopefully some others on here can post if they have seen this but i would call ER and ask about it for sure if this was my baby - i always prefer to be safe |

wow so vet left them in too long? Op when did vet say they were taking those out? |
They are dis-solvable ones, when i picked her up after her surgery, they gave me paper work. It said that the sutures would fall off and no further follow up visits were needed...(is this normal?) |
I remember Muffin had a couple of those around her incision. It went away after a couple weeks. My Vet said it was normal. |

if u give a little tug on one of the sutures does it come out? dis-solvable sutures should be coming apart by now. |
Chloe got a purple bruise near her incision site after her spay that kind of looked like that, it showed up the next day though, the vet said it was fine that some bruise more easily then others. However, since this showed up so late, I would certainly have that checked out because you need to rule out any kind of infection, especially with still having stitches in. I have never seen a vet put dissolveable stitches on the outside like that though  Chloe had a HUGE incision because she had a biopsy at the same time as spay and her incision was almost completely healed at 2 weeks and you could barely see it by 3 weeks. |
I tugged at it a little bit and it moved forward, i didn't want to tug any more because i don't know if that is safe? But, i i also got my male neutered on May 19 with the same clinic. Sharpie had the same type of sutures, just his are already falling off??? :( i feel like i should of not gotten her spayed now :( im so worried. The reason i asked about if i should take her to a vat now is that the clinic i took her too closes at 5:00. They open tomorrow at 8:15 and i might be able to take her during my lunch time. |
It does appear to me that you have a small infection going on there. I don't think it's necessary to call the emergency vets, but I would definitely take her in first thing tomorrow. Keep an eye on it for any spreading of the redness, drainage or a foul odor. Dissolvable stitches should disappear on their own in about 2 weeks, but it isn't unheard of for them to take a month. |
