a little bit of vomit in the morning, but still eating fine . . .
 

My little Midi is almost 7 months old!


On Saturday she ate her breakfast fine, but then threw up an hour later. It wasn't a lot of vomit- certainly not her whole meal, just a little bit of kibble and green stuff. She ate dinner just fine.

Then Sunday she did the same thing- a little bit of green vomit and kibble. But she again ate her dinner.

Just now she didn't eat her breakfast, but she threw up a tiny bit of green again- with some treats I give her when she potties outside.

Other than this, she is lively and happy and has no other signs of distress. Stool is firm and normal.

Is this just a Yorkie sour stomach? The biggest thing that changed this weekend is that she was out of her treats but
I picked them up on Friday- and we have been giving her more treats than normal because we taught her two new tricks this weekend. ( these are her treats: Zukes Mini Naturals – Dog Training Treats, The Perfect Training Treat for Dogs I usually cut them into fourths)
I'll stop giving her the treats right now and continue until tomorrow.

Is it worth calling the vet? I have the means to afford vet care if she needs it, but I'm hesitant to take her if it's a false alarm because I can't waste the money. I'm a student!
I was hoping anyone else here has experience with this sort of behavior.

if it was after the treats stop the treats and see if that works and call the vet and discuss at least what is going on. you need to rule out first if treats are causing this or something else so use her kibble for a treat as they do not know the difference at least mine do not as i do not use treats anymore

It does concern me it is an hour after eating only because liver issues run in this breed and vomitting or getting sick within 2 hrs of eating is a concern but you need to rule out the treats

Green vomit bothers me too as it is usually food, then bile (yellow) acids in tummy and white foam after that is emptied out so green has me concerned a little bit. It could be the food so what are you feeding?

I called the vet and they said to wait a day and see if she throws up again because it's a good sign she's still eating.

She used to eat kibble as treats, but not anymore! In the mean time I'll just praise or use her toys.
Her food is Royal Canin Mini Puppy 33. Thank you so much for the information! I'll keep watching her and if there's vomit tomorrow, off to the vet we go!

what is the protein percentage on that food? Have you recently switched to it?

No, she's been eating it always. Our breeder weaned them onto it.

that protein is high at 33% for this breed as i have read that food is high in protein even with a yorkie on the front of the bag :) So keep me posted on how she is with removing the treats

You may want to have her bile acid tested just to make sure she does not have liver issues as yorkies are 38% more likely to have liver issues and why protein needs to be lower for this breed. If this continues I would recommend getting that done

I'm really happy to announce there's been NO MORE VOMIT~! It must have been the treats.
Strange because it didn't happen before, but she didn't have them for a few weeks and then giving her too many maybe caused an upset tummy.

I'll be much more mindful of it in the future. We were just so excited because she learned to play dead when we say BANG! It's adorable!

I asked the vet about the protein content of #33, and she said since the treats were the problem that I should continue on the same food. She didn't seem worried about the high percentage, she said puppies need more nutrients. Do you think that's reasonable, or what should I do? In three more months she's due to eat adult food, I could switch here then . . . .
