Freak Accident! I had taken Pasquale to my parents house to visit. They have a huge backyard so Squale and I were out there enjoying the sun. He was running around the yards chasing the birds when all of the sudden I turn around and see him sitting on the ground with one leg up. I dont know what he did...but he's limping and not putting much pressure on him. So to be safe i took him to the vets immediately. When i got there the tech asked me if i gave it some time ..."cause these things have a way of working themselves out" She said she could give me an appointment at 3:40pm. Really? 2 hours later? I took it hoping he would be better by then. He lets me touch the leg but he whines a little when i aggravate it too much. I can tell he's very uncomfortable cause he cant find a position to lay down in. This is killing me. |
awww, poor Pasquale. I bet he just twisted it chasing those nasty, nasty birds out of the yard. :p It doesn't help that it's probably something minor, they still hurt so we still hurt. I'm told that extra treats, hugs & tummy rubs will take the pain away. Well that's what my 3 tell me whenever they hurt. Let us know what the vet says. Get better soon Pasquale. |

Wait...you were already there at the vet and they made you leave without checking him out?? What's up with that?? I hope he's better very quickly. Poor baby! |
I know..they "claim" to be emergency care when they are open and they refer you to Tufts Medical Center on their off hours. But they were open and its the middle of the day...i mean, couldnt they have a doctor just check him out briefly to put my mind at ease? They didnt even touch him.:( |
Did the vet look at him at all? |

Awwww, poor Pasquale. :( I'm sure he just twisted it chasing the birds. But it's always nice to hear confirmation from a vet that he's ok so I hope you get in soon. My dad also has a huge fenced in backyard and the dogs run like crazy over there together, I'm always worried he's gonna hurt himself! lol. Jackson came up limping in Jan. for what seemed like NO reason and it ended up being Lymes disease so he got put on an antibiotic and stopped within an hour, but in your case it sounds like he just injured himself! |
The vet should have looked at him. He could have a broken bone somewhere in his leg or foot. The only thing I can suggest for you or others who may be in the same predicament: When the tech asks you if youi gave it some time: you reply: Yes, I've been watching him limp around for a half hour. He is weightbearing/nonweightbearing on X leg. And he's in pain. When they say they could give you an appointment at 3:40pm: You reply: Don't you see emergencies here? That is why I specifically came to you. He needs to be examined by the vet. If that doesn't get you in: Go to a different vet. Hope he makes out allright. |

And well, I'm onery (Texas word maybe...means stubborn and irritating ) and I would have sat right down in that waiting room until a vet saw me. If longer than say fifteen minutes went by, I'd start talking to my pet loudly and telling him how I felt about an emergency vet who wouldn't see him. ;) You're just a nicer person than I am. |
Update Went back to the vets at 3:30, they took him in and confirmed what i had thought..that its probably just twisted it and its irritated/inflamed a little. They put him on an anti-inflamatory for the long weekend and told me to restict his activity. The reason i go to this vets office is cause there's one doctor there who i think is great. He's not one of the owners...but i know he has little dogs of his own and really knows his stuff. I think things are the way they are over there cause of the owners. Way back when it was a small vets office, it was great. They then expanded to like 8 different doctors and now its a "business". I guess what kills me is that I told them he wasnt bearing weight on it..which meant he could have broken it..but they would have never known that because they never even looked at his leg. |
While I'm sorry that he hurt his leg, I'm very glad that it's not more serious. Give him a belly rub for me. :) |

Yup I would have sat my rear end in front of the front desk and kept on starring hard at them till they saw my baby. |
