Elliott is limping Elliott jumped from a small hill in my yard, and came up favoring his left rear leg. He held it off the ground for a few minutes (which seemed like an eternity) and then began walking on it, somewhat stiffly. He has Grade 2 LP. There is so much information out there about the symptoms of LP, but not a lot (that I've found, anyway) discussing how the dog reacts after the knee slips. This is the first time he's shown any symptoms - he is seven months old, and I've had him since the first of March. In short, Elliott is running and being his usual energetic self, but his left leg still seems a little stiff, usually after he gets up from sleeping. Is this normal "post slip" behavior, or should I be more concerned? Thanks. |
He should probably rest his leg and limit his activity for at least a few days. Doodlebug has Grade 2 LP and he jumped off the back steps and held his leg. We watched him and limited his jumping and playing for at least a week. He would occasionally lift it during that time but with rest it get better. I also called the vet for reassurance and followed what he told me to do. Give the vet a call in the morning. |

That is what happened with Dbug but it came and went for a few days. It's been months now and he seems fine. Glad he is feeling better. Do yo have stairs for him to use? That would also be a good idea. |
Definitely try to keep him from jumping on and off of furniture. I have a couple of pups with LP and one had a problem a couple of months ago. He fell off of my bed onto his leg. He was limping and crying and by the time I got to the EC he was trying to put weight on it. Long story short, he was put on anti inflammatories and in about 10 days he was fine! He did have a couple of episodes of limping in the beginning. He is fine now! Hopefully, your Elliott will be as well. :) |

He's doing much better today. He's trotting along and chasing bumblebees outside. He's definitely more like himself. I picked up some Glucosamine/Joint Relief tablets at Petco; I know it won't cure the problem, but hopefully it will strengthen his little knees. |

I hope he continues to improve! :) |
