Daisy is doing a little better today. She is not dragging her leg but she is still unsteady on it. She is not in pain with the tramadol but is very quiet.

She and Barney are at the vet today having bile acids testing done so they will check out the leg again today.

She does not jump up to greet us. I think she may have banged the kneecap on the tile floor or slipped on it. No one was in the room so it's a wild card.

I don't get the WDJ anymore but did for years.

The vet nutritionist advised to keep Teddy off of the S/D canned garbage given the high fat and sodium and breed disposition to Pancreatitis and to instead give a supplement called Uroease with his regular home cooked meals for one month then repeat blood and ultrasound and if dissolved then formulate proper home cooked diet to prevent additional uroliths from forming. Sounded ok to me, not sure where to find Uroease?

yeah I was not in the room when dd hurt her leg either just heard her scream out and she hobbled to me when i ran out to see what happened as i was feeding demi. I think my nephew threw a toy and she went off the doggy stairs wrong and hurt her leg. I was not happy.

Thanks! PS Daisy never made a peep so no overt injury - she is a resiliant one so she will bounce back from this. The boys are far better drama queens, especially Barney, he milks the attention. :D

Yeah ortho told me when acl injury the initial pain is when it happens like when i ruptured my achilles it hurt like crazy at first then no pain really after that. Hopefully just soft tissue. I have not ever had 3 sick at one time only two and that is no fun. I had dd with hives and dexter vomitting over easter years ago and it was a nightmare so i cannot even imagine having 3 with issues at the same time. YIKES

I just heard from my vet. Daisy's patella is completely out and she needs to have a second surgery on the rear leg. :(

Apparently it is pretty bad and they are shocked at how stoic she is - not a peep - just sitting there like a little bug :aimeeyork letting them check her out.

As Daisy is liver compromised, we have limited options and additional worry. It appears we may have no choice.

WTH in the same leg as surgery was done ? Did they not do the groove deep enough? Did a bc ortho do surgery the first time? I am so sorry :( this stinks poor baby and that surgery is brutal for you and her :( could they not see this on xray a few days ago when you had xray done at ER?

How long ago did she have this surgery?

Yes, the first surgery was done by a ACVS board certified vet with a concentration in soft tissue and orthopedics. Hers was a very severe grade 4 and I always had this fear but after all this time I thought I was over the hurdle of worrying about it.

The surgery was done 8 years ago and never a problem. I actually thought she was like 9 mos old when she had it done but I called yesterday to find out the exact date and it was when she was 2. It's been so long I had forgotten about all the details.

They think this was acute trauma that caused it but she never made a peep and we did not see anything. All I can think of is that she whacked it on a chair leg (metal) or on the tile floor when she was chasing Teddy for his cookie crumbs.

As for the xray - this was the first one. They did not do it on Sun night because she tolerated the exam so well that they were leaning toward soft tissue at the ER hospital and said to watch it and give tramadol and follow up in two days. So that is when my vet did not like the looks of it.

Meanwhile we thought she was improving - she is completely stoic - she has a very high pain tolerance. I feel so terrible for her and all I can do is medicate her until we see the ortho. I am waiting to hear when that is going to be.

I am SO sorry. Poor little Daisy. :( I hope you can get her in to the specialist soon.

I will say prayers for her. I hope the surgery goes well and she has an uneventful recovery.

so when they said LP 4 her patella was permanently out no movement whatsoever on the patella? This is my understanding of patella 4 when vet did xray of dd on both back legs both were completely out and they cannot manipulate them at all in manual exam. This is why they said she is susceptible to injury of acl.

3 is when it keeps popping in and out i thought and they cry out in pain and you have to manipulate it back in place.

ask about groove not being deep enough as have read this tends to happen and why second surgery is needed. Was acl ruptured as well? I would think if trauma the acl would rupture as well

I am just so bummed you and her have to go through this again

when you said leg dragging i was concerned this was the case :( as dd only lifted leg with acl injury

I don't think anything matters right now but to get her knee repaired. I have a feeling this might be more common than thought....the surgery lasted 8 years! I would think if something had been done that was not correct, it would have shown up long before now!

I only said that I imagine it is not uncommon. I have never seen one do this....but then, I have never had LP surgery done. I have had many pups with different stages and have only had surgery done on one. His was more than LP, though. I am just not a fan of the surgery unless they are limping and in pain. I have just never had one that severe. They would pop out on occasion and pop back in. I also have some that are stage 4 that are older. The knee is out....done. Unless there is a tear in the ACL which can happen with instability, I won\'t do surgery. Both my vet and the specialist I use are not LP quick to suggest surgery for LP.
