I hope someone can help, EMERGENCY!! 1 Attachment(s) I have a 12 yr old yorkie, I know in a forum like this it can go without saying, but I must say... this dog has meant the world to me & I love her dearly. She has always had stomach issues, like many Yorkies do, but the last bout never got any better with the medicine that the vet gives her. It has been 2 weeks since she has eaten normally & consistently without throwing up. Most of the time she doesn't even try to eat anymore. I have taken her to 2 different vets, & all they can say (thousands of dollars later) is that they are baffeled. At one point last week they thought she was diabetic, then 2 days after that the vet said it may be liver or kidney failure, then they tested her blood again 2 days later & her liver/kidney levels were almost normal- but she was still at death's door. I have NO idea what to do with this. She is so small (4.8 pounds when she's well) she goes from doing much better to near death very quickly. I don't want to give up on her if there's any chance that she could get over this, as she usually does. However, I don't want her to suffer & at this point I am having to give her an IV of glucose a couple of times a day (which we both hate) & that's all she has going into her system besides water. Has anyone had a similar situation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is just so hard... Thank you, Jamie You can reach me at (941) 893-7751 or jamienpitts@gmail.com |
I'm sorry; I don't have any advice. She sure is a cutie and I hope you get some answers soon. Hopefully, someone will come along with more information. |
sorry that your little one is sick. I don't have any answers. I hope someone else does. |
Im sorry I have no answer either, but I'm going to bump this up. |
All I can do is keep you and her in my prayers. She looks like a real sweetie. I'm so sorry that you're going through this. :( |
I'm sorry to hear your little one is so sick. I can't offer any advice other than to tell you to consult with a specialist. Could your vet refer you to one? I'm sure many of the results of tests already done, could be shared with a specialist. And, maybe he will give you a better diagnosis than you've received so far. |
I'm sorry you are going through this. What kind of stomach problems has she had? Are her teeth okay? Sending prayers. :( |
Have you tried giving her just chicken and rice to eat? I am so sorry, I know how you feel. My old dog went through a lot towards the end. It's hard because you don't know what to do to help the baby. It must be harder knowing that the vets don't know anything either. Try giving her some chicken in little pieces. I pray she feels better soon. |
I am sending you good thoughts during this difficult time. I also wanted to "bump" this thread so that others may see and offer advice. |
I would just try feeding her some plain baked chicken breast if she would eat it. Will she eat yogurt or cottage cheese? If her tummy is sensitive right now you could perhaps get her interested in eating first by giving her chicken broth by a dropper. She may then be interested in eating the chicken breast. I'm sorry she's sick. She is adorable. |
What has the vet done besides bloodwork? Two weeks out and no better indicates that these vets really don't know. Have they talked about exploratory surgery or is she too weak? Placing a tube to feed her? I think more can be done in the hands of a vet that is willing to try everything. If she is really at death's door, then you can take her to the emergency department of a specialty hospital or university. They can admit her and the internists should be able to help. I'm sorry. :( |
I can't add to what everyone and agree with the chicken and rice advise - check with your vet and see if this is something you could try I'm sorry you're going thru this....I hope they find out what's going on and don't give up !! Many things can be treated thru diet and meds if they can put their fingers on the problem and it sounds like you're trying !! keep a diary of everything she will eat and when she gets sick - that may help the doctors also... good luck ! |
So sorry to hear about your baby. Please try giving your baby oatmeal.Just cook quick oats plain. Let it cool, and see if she can eat it. These little darlings have such GI issues. I have been feeding my yorkie holistic food for many years now with, knock on wood, excellent results. I also wonder why they didnt start and Iv to give her tummy a rest. My prayers to you and your precious baby......... |
I am so sorry to read about your baby! |
