Poison Ivy Can our babies get poison ivy? Skippy has an awful rash, and I have poison ivy all over me. I'm calling the vet in the am to make an appointment. His rash looks just like mine. What can they do for him? Thanks |
I found conflicting information, from "yes they can get it", to "they are resistant to it". But I know if your pet gets into poison ivy, they can carry it on their fur and then you get it when you touch your pet. Poison Ivy and Poison Oak Can Dogs Get Poison Ivy? |
A few years ago my sisters dog got into poison ivy and her dog didn't get it but my sister did. She had to wash her dog several times to get the oil or residue off her dog. So I don't know if dogs get it but it sure seem suspicious if you both have rashes. Hope you can find out for sure. |
I've never seen Poison Ivy on a dog, but I guess it would be possible. If the oil from the plant stays on the coat, he could carry it and pass it to you. If the oil gets on his skin, I don't see why he couldn't have a reaction to it. Have you had it before, and are the bumps blisters or no? Usually, if you've never had it or haven't had it for years, you will get blisters, and may need to go to a Doctor for treatment... Prednizone. If you get it every year, your body builds an immunity and it will effect you less and less each time, and you may see red spots on your skin very similar to Scabies. Scabies may look similar and Yorkies are prone to scabies outbreaks, and people can get them from the dog, for sure. Dogs can pick them up on walks where wildlife may frequent... squirrels, raccoon, deer crossing the road, leaves alongside the road... |
