hypoglycemia My little guy has Hypoglycemia again! I caught him in time I have given him his Nutrical forced fed him and he is resting on the heating blanket. Just curious as to what you guys do in the case of hypoglycemia. |
Again? What's his history with hypoglycemia? How old is he? If this is ongoing, do you give him nutrical a couple of times a day? Do you feed him three or four small meals a day so he doesn't have an empty stomach? I'm sorry this has happened. It's scarey. |
I went through this with my Daisy Mae. What is the age of your little one? |
He is 10 months old now. He didn't eat his dog food today and was barking so much he ran himself down. This is the 4th time. I usually feed him extra good in the morning like canned dog food and then he has his hard food at all times. But I started new hours at work and just didn't give it ( the can food)to him this morning. Well when I came home I put him outside and then back in his playpen and he barked at me for a while because I thought he wanted to run around but I had things to get done. Then about 3 hours later I went to go let him outside again and he was wobbley and I knew right away! |
Well, things happen, but without eating it's going to happen when they are prone to hypoglycemia. Is he ok now? |
I've dealt with hypo several times in puppies but never in one that old. Due to his age, I would be very concerned and have a complete check up done on him, including a BAT if not already done. A Yorkie's organs develop until they are about 5 months old and hypoglycemic episodes can happen, but after that point, it should not be happening. |

I agree. Unless he's really tiny, the risk of hypoglycemia usually passes after 3-4 months old. Hashe been neutered with pre op bloodwork yet? If not, this guy needs a complete blood chemistry and a bile acids test done. |

It sounds like something else is going on. Pennie refused to eat for 5 weeks after we got her, lots of tests and lots of $$$$$ later it turned out to be giardia and as soon as we treated her for that she did a 180. First thing I was told was to stop the nutrical, give liver juice, & give pedialite instead of tap water. And only use karo on the gums as needed. Nutrical gives them a burst of sugar, and then it drops down fast, and become a vicious cycle. It makes them crash even more. Hope that helps some... Sorry your baby is not feeling well. For sure take him in to the vet and check for parasites first.. Karla |

it happens wen ur pup doesnt eat for long periods of time, remember there puppies and dont know wen to eat, if there not eating u have to give them nurticcal tiny amounts more often to stabalize thier blood sugar |
The vet told us to give 1ml of Karo twice a day to Kenzie and her 2-3 meals. The Karo routine will go on til she's 4 m/o. |
