My Boy was choking! I had the fright of my life last night. Pepper was chewing on a piece of raw hide, the next minute he started coughing and I noticed he was making gagging movements. Luckily my boyfriend was there because I’m useless in a crisis  …… My boyfriend came running, picked Pepper up tried to open his mouth and get it out. He was just about to perform the Heimlich Maneuver when he gave a cough and it fell out his mouth. Thank goodness!!! :jump28ib: Luckily we had both read about how to perform CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver before we got him, thanks to Yorkie Talk! :yeahthat: I just hope everyone has read up and knows how to perform these very important procedures as it’s scary to see how quickly something like this can happen. There are plenty of useful links on this site so please have a look up if you don’t already know. I just hope it never happens again!! :teethysmi |
Wow, what a scare. I'm glad he's ok! |
That is so scary:eek: I'm so glad that your baby is okay:love: Rawhides are so dangerous for our little ones. Do a search on here for rawhides for more info. It's just not worth the risk, to me:( |
So glad all turned out well. Rawhide is close to being the worst thing on the planet for Yorkies. They like them so much, when you walk towards them, they will try to swallow the piece rather than let you have it, and the piece is usually too big to go down, and ends up stuck. Very scary stuff. Then too it's so slimy it is very hard to get a hold of it to remove it. |
Wow, good thing your boyfriend had a cool head. Glad Pepper is fine. I also was under the impression that rawhide was a no, no for our babies. :) |
I had NO idea raw hide wasn't good for them....thanks for that info!! My vet said I should give him raw hide for his teeth, mind you my vet isn't really the most clued up guy out there!! :) |
Oh, so glad everything turned out okay and understand how scary this can be. Same kind of story (before YorkieTalk knowledge)..... I used to let Piccolo chew on Dingo bones, which are rawhide. One day she started choking because she swallowed this huge piece. Thankfully, I was able to reach down her throat and pull it out. Scared me to death. Now I only let the pups have bully sticks and watch them as they chew. One more reason for me to be thankful for YorkieTalk and the knowledge that I have gained about rawhides and bullysticks. :) |
Never give puppies or dogs for that matter especially yorkies rawhide! its the worst for them, there is alot of research on the web, its a choking hazard and its horrible for their stomachs, please dont give him rawhide again, you should go to the petstore and get teething sticks made for pups and its delicate enuff for there digestive system |
