has anyone dealt with idiopathic encephalitis? About 4 weeks ago our 4 year old Yorkie (Sassy) was a fun loving, game playing, active dog. In about 10 days her health deteriorated. Her head tilted left, she could walk only in left circles, her eye sight was affected, she could not go up or down stairs and had trouble eating. At the advice of our vet we took her to the NC Vet teaching Hospital in Raleigh NC. After numerous tests including and MRI and a spinal tap they came to the conclusion that she had an inflamatory brain disease not caused by infection. Another name is idiopathic encephalitis. She was given a intervaineious Cytosar treatment overnight. Every 3 weeks she will need injections. She was sent home with Prednisone and Cyclosporine to be given daily. We are happy to say her condition is much improved. She wants to run around and play again although somewhat awkwardly. Her eyesight is still not right but she seems to be compensating quite well. Her quality of life has improved and we hope it will continue. Time will tell. Has anyone had any experience similar to this if so I would be interested in hearing your story |
I don't know anything about it. Just wanted to say so glad Sassy is improving. Hopefully, someone will come along with some information. |

Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis |
Your poor baby, I am so sorry to hear she is so sick! I hope she will be 100% in no time. I googled IE and the NC State site on it was the first one that came up, it looks like you took her to the right place. |
I have a 2 yr od diagnosed in January with Breed Incephalitis. She is still on Prednisone and except for the weight gain, is doing very well. She had some paralisis . left eye and mouth and stumblimg around that the Neurologist said would never go away. Its completely gone. We are doing very well now. Please give your pet good nutrition. I went all Holistic. OPC Is wonderful for their joints, especially with weight gain. I love my baby and I quit my job to be with her and to be dedicated to her recovery. We are fixing to taper her dose down and see how she does. She too has the non infectious type. I told the vet I do not want to know negative outcomes!!! Keep positive and give lots of love!! I will be praying for you and your baby! Please keep Emmy Joyce and me in your prayers!!!! |

I would definitely call my vet if I were you and ask about a neurological consult. I always prefer to go to board certified specialists. Good luck and please let us know how you make out! :) And. welcome to YT! |
