Have a problem My cousin got a great dane pup a while back and I don't come around much.. Well she called me the othe day telling me she won't eat and asked me what could be wrong... I know she has had a couple of her shots not sure how many... I'm gonna say she is a couple months old. Prob 3 or 4 mths... Well I came over today and went outside to look at her and she is very skinny I can see spine and all ribs.. But problem is he has bowls of food outside... She's just not eating.. My cousin said the not eating just started.. But that she's always been skinny... What do yall think is wrong I pulled ticks off of her.. Do u think she could have parvo?? She doesn't vomit as far as I know.. And what precautions do I take to insure I don't take it home to my dogs?? They are all vaccinated and up to date.. I spayed myself with lysol and only touched the dog w a glove.... |
They taking her to vet tomorrow |
If the dog is not eating to the point of emancipation something medically is wrong and it needs to be seen by a vet. If it were parvo it seems there would be diahrea or other symptoms but Im not a vet. Convince her to get him to a vet today |
I'd get her to a vet today, also. You don't say how many days this has been going on, but if the puppy is being kept outside, they may not notice if the puppy is drinking enough water, on top on of not eating. She could be very dehydrated, too. I do prefer to err on the side of caution, but puppies can go down so darn fast! Good luck and please let us know how the puppies doing. |
Note again this is not my dog and am only going by the info they give me.. She said she just stopped eating like 2 or 3 days ago.. She will eat human food tho.. So I gave her some lunch meat cuz anything is better than nothing.... I am pissed at the situation but since they are concerned and want to help her Then that shows they care.... I tried to look for some poop but I couldn't find any recent.... If it is parvovirus should I be concerned about my dogs? Also she's not lethargic she comes out and wants to play... But she is an outside dog... They feed her everyday and noticed that she wasn't eating... They said they have to refill water tho.. I though maybe Lyme disease buy I don't know wht the signs are |
Maybe some type of parasite if she's really skinny? I'd def encourage them to take her to a vet. Maybe a precaution you could take is lysol the bottom of your shoes so if it got on your feet it wouldn't be coming into your house. I hope everything is ok with your cousins dog, and they are lucky to have you to come to for advice. |
Hhahahahha I lysoled my whole body.... And shoes.. Lol |
Wow...she's only 3 or 4 months old and an outside dog? I would seriously try to get them to let the dog go to someone who can properly love and care for it. This puppy could have eaten a rock, a stick or anything that could have caused a blockage and they would never know. I hope the poor little thing is o.k. Good luck at the vet... |
Yeah I knew they shouldn't have got the dog.. They bought her from my cousin who breD her dog... I told her take er back to ten so they can help her..... I'm gonna look up a rescue around here.. |
I think that would be a great thing to do for this puppy...good luck. |
Although I can't offer any help, I do think it's great that you are trying to help this poor puppy. Please keep us posted. |

Thanks so much for the number.... |
Good for you for trying to help this puppy. I owned a great dane and while they are wonderful gentle dogs, their size makes people think they are strong/sturdy dogs when actually they do have a lot of health issues which can be expensive. The way they eat, drink and play can cause their stomachs to flip (bloat)(which can be deadly) and being kept outside no one would know it's habits. There is also bone and joint disorders. As with yorkies - they are not a breed for someone on a tight budget. You are certainly to be commended for doing something that will probably make you pretty unpopular with your family. Good luck to you!!! |
I called her today to check on the pup... She got her an appointment tomorrow at the vet.. Which is good but she is taking her to the vet skoshi died at.. But anything is better than nothing at this point |
