Respiratory rate? Can any one tell me what a normal respiratory rate is for a 14 week old puppy? I can find a normal size puppy (15-40) & an adult toy (15-40) but not a toy puppy. I'm still so worried about Rhett. He doesn't seem to be any better than yesterday. He hasn't been drinking well and he threw up his dinner and evening antibiotics ( he has right middle lobe pneumonia). He was trying to be active earlier today, but just seems worse to me tonight. Thanks. |
He is breathing 60-70. I've been a NICU nurse for 20 years and that's too fast for a baby! |
Sorry I missed this thread. How is he doing today? |
Poor Rhett, I do hope he is doing better soon. It's frightening when they are sick and you can't do anything to make them better right away. Did the vet say when you should start seeing improvement? |
Rhett's doing better, finally. Still coughing when he gets over excited, but not nearly as hard as this time last week. His energy level is back to pre-illness! The night I posted this was scary. He was just breathing so shallow and so fast. I ended up moving his crate in to the bathroom and setting up the vaporizer in there, that helped him immensely. I slept on the floor beside his crate. The next day when he wasn't eating or out to go potty, I kept him crated with the vaporizer again, just to help loosen everything up. He has another week of antibiotics, but the vet was pleased with his progress at his recheck today. |
From what I understand, most dogs have a resting repiratiory rate of 15 - 30, however, that being said ....the pneumonia is not helping. Have you tried probiotics/enzymes with his food and then giving him the antibiotics after? I wish I had something of substance to help you out. Poor little guy, sending my thoughts and prayers his way. |
Rhett got a clean bill of health at his check up today. Lung sounds were totally clear. |
Good news! I'm glad to hear it. |
