worried owner Hi my name is Manuel, my wife and I just bought a 11 week old yorkshire terrier today. We brought him home and weve noticed that he's been laying down all day. I touched his nose and it's dry. I gave him 2ccs of syrup as i was instructed if he looked lethargic. Still, he just lays their we took him outside and he just found a spot to sit in the grass. Should we be worried or is he just scared of his new envirorment? |
He could just be scared, make sure he eats and drinks. Give him some nutracal its better for him than syrup. Have you taken him to the vet? Or called the breeder? You should check with the breeder to see if he has had any trouble with blood sugar. How long have you had him? With these little ones they can drop there blood sugar pretty quickly. If he wont eat or drink I would take him to the vet to have him checked out. Try feeding him by hand. Sorry thats all I can think of for now, There are so real experts on this sight, hopefully one will come on soon. |
Where did you purchase him from? He is most likely adjusting to his big changes. How do his gums look? Are they pink? How much does he weigh? I'm sure others will be along to help too. Welcome to YT :) |

Thanks guys, i got him to eat. I layed his food on the floor and he's actually eating it. |
:welcome4: You've found a really good place to come and learn. Congrats on your new puppy . . .:D While it is an exciting time for you and your family, the puppy is probably just nervous and scared not knowing of his new surroundings, it'll take time for him to adjust and get used to your daily life and his new home. Since you purchased him from a pet store, he's probably not been used to people and noises and such. The first thing you should do in the morning is set up a wellness visit with a vet you will be using so he can be examined to make sure he is healthy and to get his statistics. It would also be wise to bring a poo sample so it can be tested for any parasites. If you don't feel he's eating well enough, you can always supplement his food with some broiled plain chicken or turkey that really gets them going! Congrats again and keep us posted of his progress. What's his name? |
Glad he is doing better. Once he is checked out by the vet to make sure he is ok and a few days to settle in you will see a big difference. |
Congrats on your new baby. I agree, he is probably not used his new environment and being so young, he is a bit scared. Just make sure he has a quiet, small area that he can go to for him to feel safe in. Maybe a soft pillow and blankie to snuggle with. Just give lots of TLC and I am sure he'll come around in now time. Make sure he has access to water and I would recommend free feeding him at his age. Can you leave a bowl of kibble out for him? |
