Hollyhock caught Parvo but we caught it in time. Over the weekend I started giving her pedialight and staying up all night with her watching her. We took her to the vet first thing monday morning and after looking at the $700 bill for just one day we decided to have them administer the first meds and then I have the rest and am giving them to her. I feel terrible. Ive never had a puppy to be honest and I didnt realize the importance of booster shots. She is right at the end of the worst part. She didnt get a temperature or diarrhea but she got dry heaves. If it werent for the pedialight she wouldve died Im sure. There is a terrible outbreak of Parvo here. The spca has had to put down so many puppies its just sad and awful. Anyway, we are going to live through this and I wont take booster shots for granted ever again. And Im gonna make bf give the meds to her next time so I dont look like the bad guy all the time. :aimeeyork |
I am so sorry Hollyhock is sick. I am also glad you caught it in time. Hoping for a speedy recovery. |
So sorry to hear of this, praying for a speedy, complete recovery... |
Thank you, both of you. She's feeling better enough this morning to try and run away from getting her meds. Not quite as fast but She's getting there. |
Your baby is very lucky. I am glad she's on the road to recovery. That is just so scary. |
I feel your pain, I've been there too. Chewie was confined at the vet's for 3 days because of parvo. Then when he got home we gave him i/d food, antibiotics, gatorade and vitamin c. Don't forget to disinfect your house when your puppy is better. Kill all those parvo germs! The parvo can live for up to 6 months in your house. Praying for a speedy recovery. |

just curious though since both of you have experienced this how it happened so others can understand as i am very interested in knowing to learn as well as we had a plumber come into our home and his puppy had parvo were both your dogs puppies? Where did they come from? My friend's dog had it years ago but she did not do puppy shots the took her dog for a hike up in the mountains and the dog contracted parvo. After the scare we had the vets and specialists told me parvo is everywhere and as long as your dog was vaccinated for it as a puppy and had one year booster immunity should be fine and my dogs were fine so i am curious as to did they contract this before having puppy shots? |
I am also wondering did the breeder you bought Holly from give her parvo and distemper shots before she allowed you to take her home. I have been breeding for 28+ years and I have never sold a puppy without giving it a parvo and distemper shot. If they didn't I would call your breeder and tell them what happened. She is adorable and looks like she is slow on getting her ears up hahaha have some like that all the time you have to keep them very closely shaved the weight of the hair is too much for the little muscles in the ears to stand some times. Well I hope your baby feels better soon thank goodness you stayed on top of her like a good Mommy. |
So sorry to her Holly is sick. Hoping for a very fast recovery. |
Hope your Holly gets better soon. Kisses from my Holly to yours. |
You are very lucky! So glad she is doing well and on the road to recovery! |
Make sure everything is bleached in your home, even the bottoms of your shoes must be wiped down. Parvo can live for six months anywhere! Glad you are nipping it in the bud. Good Luck and keep us updated. Lissette |

Yes my dog was 13 weeks old when he got parvo. But he had only gotten one shot at the time and no parvo shot. And I got him from a petstore here in the Philippines.:( But I wonder, is it only puppies who get parvo or can older dogs get it too? And I also asked my vet if he could get parvo again later in life, my vet said no. But I read somewhere that dogs can get parvo again after having it once. But I guess, yeah, dogs should be fine if they already had their parvo shot. |

There are different strains of parvo...and the shot does not work on all of them...at least this was true a couple of years ago...I don\'t know if they have something for the C strain? |
