Thanks everyone! Quote:
We are half done crate rest today!!! Poor Layla doesn't know any better and probably thinks she's just going to be confined forever  I bet she'll be excited when we slowly start reintroducing her to real life again! Luckily this time it's happening in winter when we don't want to be outside anyway! |
Now you're going into the second half. You're right. At least, it's winter.:) |
Layla's rehab vet called this morning to see how Layla is doing :) She was very glad to hear how much better she is, and told me neck problems can be really scary. She also wants me to send her a picture of Layla for her Graduation Wall in the rehab centre, because she thinks Layla really deserves to be up there :D |
I think Layla should be up there on that wall, too.:) |
Layla is truly an inspiration, and she should provide hope to others when they see her photo and hear her story. I believe in Layla and the power of the love you share with her. |

Tomorrow is 5 weeks of crate rest. This last week flew by! Must be because of Christmas! Layla's been a bit spoiled lately and we've put her new bed (from the GE) in front of her crate door at home so she can lay in bed while we're watching tv in the evenings :) Yesterday we spent the whole day lazing around and Layla spent the whole day cuddled in bed, flat on her back, snoring as loud as she could! I wish I had taken pictures! |
At least, she is comfortable during her crate rest. It sounds like she loves her new bed. Hope you have a Merry Christmas.:) |
hahahahaha My Fletcher has started snoring lately and it's too funny! He gets loud and bf and I just stare! Darn lazy dog!!!! LOL Hows Layla doing?? |
Lol that's cute! I love when they snore! Layla is doing really well! Christmas was a bit of a hassle because she was always crying to be somewhere else. Between her crate, her bed, her stroller, and my lap, she usually found a place she could be happy lol. We got to my parents' house on the 23rd, and Layla was beside the kitchen table in her bed and she was quite content. I went to the fridge to get a drink, and my dad came through the front door. Well, Layla flew across the kitchen and launched herself down the two steps into the sunken living room and was across to the other side before realizing she couldn't get up the next two steps. Everyone thought it was cute but it nearly gave me a heart attack! She shouldn't be moving like that! Luckily there was no harm done! She only has two weeks of crate rest left! |
Layla's going to give you a heart attack yet! I'm glad the time is getting nearer that she can be free again.:) |
ONE MORE WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!! We are back at work today and Layla is snoozing in her stroller, but in the past couple of days we've loosened up the rules at home a bit. We have been doing a bit of play time on the living room area rug, and we've stopped bringing her crate up to the bedroom and she is allowed to sleep in her bed overnight. She's still taking it easy, and about 5 minutes of play time is enough for her! She doesn't move at all anymore without her back legs moving too! Sometimes she stands and scares herself! Yesterday I threw a toy for her and she was running to grab it about 2 feet away, and one of her back paddling legs came up under her and extended and she jumped and turned around, forgetting all about the toy! She just looked like WHAT is going ON back there?? I don't think she has regressed at all during her crate rest. We'll make another rehab appointment in the next couple of weeks and see what the vet thinks! |
Woohoo! Layla's almost free and going to take off one of these days!:D |
I love reading about Layla's spunky attitude. You two have worked so hard to give her the best of care. I am so happy to hear about the movement in her back legs. Good luck with you last week of crate rest. Buster send you his best wishes and he thinks you are one really special girl. |
That is great news! Way to go Layla!!!! 1 more week that's it:) |
YAY! I am sooooo glad to hear the progress in Layla! Crate rest was just what she needed I guess! :) |
Love the Layla updates. Sounds like she is doing great. Her story has gone from being a heartbreaking read to a feel good read. You are all inspiring! |
hope little layla is feeling good, what a strong baby she is:D |
Yea Layla!!! I'm so proud of you little one, I bet your mom never dreamed you would become one of YorkieTalks' amazing little wonders. Bless your sweet heart...Layla! |

Woohoo!!! Layla's done crate rest TOMORROW!!! :D But now I'm not sure what to do with her. I think our routine now is great... she sleeps in her stroller all day except for one or two bathroom breaks, and then at home she is free to play in the evenings on the area rug and she snuggles on the couch with us while we watch tv and she sleeps in her bed all night... I am considering just keeping this up. Maybe during my lunch break I can take her for walks around the office, and play some fetch in the hallway. But having her content in her stroller now isn't hurting her, and if she needs to go back on crate rest at any point, she won't have to get used to it all over again. It also saves me having to put up gates and chasing her around the office when she gets out, and watching for rug burns on her little tummy! I think it also is just a little more professional of me too. I get worried about that now that I know this will have to be a long-term thing. Layla started coming to work with me when I asked if I could bring her in until she got better. She is not going to get better in the sense of going to the bathroom on her own, so I will always need to bring her, and I don't want them to change their minds and ask me not to bring her in anymore. I don't want to test my boundaries with this! I just feel like my desk area is more approachable now without people worrying about coming in and closing the gate and trying not to step on her. And remember the jalepeno pepper fiasco? Our Mexican team is returning next week and Layla would always find a way out and beg for food. I know her whining gets annoying and even though it's usually at lunch time, some people still work, and like I said, I don't want to test my boundaries. I guess I feel a little guilty because she was always a free-run dog, but I know a lot of dogs are crated for the day and they do just fine! I get so much more work done now too though, so maybe it's better all around to keep her this way. She's content - right now she's snoring super loud lol! |
One more day! Yippeeeee!:D I think the stroller probably is comfortable for her, too. I imagine she's warmer in there. I certainly do remember the jalapeno fiasco!:D Poor Layla! I hope you both have a good day.:) |

Annie finished crate rest last Friday but I've been keeping her pretty still and she stays in her stroller a lot. (Annie snores loud too, lol) A little playing and walking every day to build her strength back up, but we don't let her jump up on the furniture anymore and when we are gone we put both girls in their crates. She seems so much happier though. :) But this is a lifelong disease, so we will always handle her with extreme care. |

Layla must know she's done crate rest today because she's being a little pain in the butt and keeps crying and trying to get out of her stroller! |
LOL that's what Annie does....scratches the net screen when she wants to get out of her stroller and whimpers or growls at me. I have to say "Sit, Stay!" and I don't let her out if she's whining. sheesh, yes they can be a pain in the butt. It's like they know that the crate rest is over......."NOW LET ME GO!!!" LOL |
So RELIEVED FOR YOU! Oh I am so happy and relieved for you and your baby! I have read in horror at what you have gone through! I couldn't even post, but I do pray! I lost my first Yorkie so unexpectedly - never getting the chance to pray for him.. I do have two Yorkies now that I love so very dearly, but still I miss my Harley Joe.. I freeze up at the thought of anyone else feeling what I did..I thank God for his answered prayers for you! You are so blessed and will remain in my prayers! Thank you for keeping us all informed. It helps so much to hear the wonderful results. A real inspiration! |

I just wanted to attach a picture I took about a half hour ago :) I had some downtime at work waiting for some things to load on my computer so Layla and I had a little bit of play time :D I didn't let her have the toy for long though, because she found the squeaker pretty quickly  Some people do need to work around here lol!
