I agree with you .... my yorkie definitely knows when another yorkie is nearby and she loves it!! It's nice to hear that Layla is doing so well.....a rehab boyfriend....lucky her!! |
Layla is getting so much better at scooting around the house! She'll usually still cry for us from her new area rug in the living room, but if we don't come running, she will come find us! Last weekend she scooted from the living room to the kitchen where I was which was a big surprise! But this Saturday she really started! We had another couple over to watch a football game, and she got so excited she wanted to be everywhere! She had no problem going from living room to kitchen to back door! On Sunday, Scott and I were both busy outside with Scott trimming bushes and me painting shelves out on the driveway. We didn't bring her out because she would have to be in the gated backyard and she'd be just as miserable without us  and we weren't able to watch her if she was in the front or side yard (without a fence). So she stayed in. Scott went inside through the garage at one point and I heard him say "What are you doing back here???" Lol she went from the living room, down the hall, through the kitchen, through the breakfast nook, past the hot tub and down the hallway to the garage all by herself! She knew we were out that way and she was waiting for us at the door! Later we had to head into the city for a fall supper at a church with my grandma and other family. We knew we wouldn't be long so we were leaving her at home. Well, as soon as she knew we were leaving her, she scooted all the way back AGAIN and shot straight out the door and into the garage so we wouldn't forget her! I had to carry her back to the living room and run out of the house :( It broke my heart! When we got home a couple of hours later, she was back there again waiting for us and running around in circles (her front feet running around her planted butt lol!). Things have changed so much this year, and I think it's just as hard on me to be without her as it is on her! And leaving her inside without us for a few hours and then going away for another couple of hours threw her schedule off so much that she didn't eat or drink ALL DAY. She barely had any pee to be expressed at bedtime :( Being away from us really stresses her out I guess :( |
You are such an incredible Mama! I love hearing about how she is getting around...just warms the heart right UP :)! Thanks for sharing this. |
Wow Linz! You really ARE an amazing Mom!!! |
She loves to be with her mommy!:D She really is getting around. That's the good part. |
It's so nice to hear how great Layla is doing! It's also so uplifting that you never gave up on her and look at how lucky all of you are right now...she is such a gift!! She is so fortunate to have you!!:animal-pa |
I just had a huge scare about 10 minutes ago! I was getting out of Scott's car, and Layla was in her carrier with the strap on my shoulder. I grabbed my purse and closed the car door and Layla must have gotten excited because she jumped with her front legs right out of her head hole in the carrier! It was a split second and all I saw was her falling, so I reached out and grabbed what I could, just some fur on her back and neck and threw my other arm under her to catch her. All is fine now but I'm still shaken up! :( I will zip up that head hole when we're carrying her from now on :( |
Oh my gosh! I'm so glad you caught her. She was just trying to get going, I guess. Your heart will probably still be pounding for the next hour though. I know the fear they can cause when things like that happen and they happen so fast! I hope you're ok. |
I'm so glad she is o.k.- phew!!! That happened to me once with Keoki and I was a wreck- I caught him too. I am soooo glad everything is ok. |
Yikes!!! Glad she is ok though! Phew! Darned little girl, nothing .. I mean NOTHING is going to slow her down huh? :) |
Layla is such a strong and determined little girl! I love reading your posts about her. You are such a good mom! |
Layla is definitely fearless! But she sure worries me! I hope I didn't hurt her too bad grabbing onto her fur, but at least it wouldn't hurt as bad as her hitting the pavement! I'm glad you guys are understanding because I really felt like a bad mom! |
Believe me when I say we all know things can happen. They do to us all of the time!;) |
Wow I just read your postings from beginning to end and it took me all morning. You are really incredible. I only hope if anything God forbid happens to any of my animals I will have the strenght and courage that you had through your whole ordeal. I'm glad Layla is better now. I think you, Scott and Layla have gone through enough for this lifetime. |

This weekend, we caught Layla standing up FOUR TIMES to drink water. We bought her a set of bowls on a stand so she doesn't have to reach all the way to the floor, so it wasn't just a catilever effect with her front legs, it was actual standing. Sometimes her legs were crossed, but she was still using her muscles! and you could tell when she started moving to one side, her muscles would engage to correct it. She would stand for the whole time she was drinking... up to probably 20 seconds at least one of the times. I can't wait to talk to her vet tomorrow about this! :D |

Whoohoo that is SO awesome!!!!! |
She wants to walk, so she's giving it her best. Yorkies are stubborn and don't give up easily, so I hope things like this keep happening! Go Layla!:D |
That is great!!! Way to go little girl!!:mademyday |
I'm always eager to find out what Layla is up to. She is a symbol of the meaning of spirit. She's very lucky to have such a great mom! Glad to hear that she continues to make progress! |
Layla never ceases to amaze me. This is such wonderful news. Nothing seems to stop Layla. You must feel so proud of her. I believe in Layla. Her spirit, strength, and loving nature are all good indicators for future sucess for her. I also believe in the power of yours and Scott's love in helping her to heal. Congratulations, Layla. :woohoo: |
Thanks guys! She stood last night for her water too! I'm so excited to tell her vet about this today. I will try to get it on video tonight! |
I'm getting excited about all of this standing.:D |
The vet said she saw her almost pull herself up today, and I told her she keeps standing when she drinks water and the vet said that is really exciting! Layla is stronger than ever and the vet also noticed her core strength is way up, so whatever we're doing at home is great. But really, we're not doing a whole lot at home. We're playing with her and she's fetching toys and running after balls, we're encouraging her to get around on her own, and she's only in the water now when she has a bath every 2 weeks or so, but we haven't actually taken out the exercise ball and done her routine in a while. Maybe we need to make more time for those things. Oh, and about getting around, she is doing SO well! Last night she had no problem scooting from living room to kitchen and back again! Everytime she followed me she got a special treat :) Scott expressed her before bed and she scooted straight back through the breakfast nook and to her mat in the kitchen. It's hardly a struggle anymore! So that makes me very happy. Since she is doing so well at rehab, the vet said she knows we only have a few sessions left and wondered if we would just work with her from home when these sessions are done. I didn't really know what to say. I miss her when she's at rehab and I'm at work alone (as do my coworkers lol). It's a huge hassle to drive across the city in the morning and evening rush hour to get her (Scott or I are at least 30 minutes late for work when we take her in the morning) and it's also very expensive... Christmas is coming and we are also trying to save for our trip to Europe next year. On the other hand, she gets such good care there, and they have things we don't have like the underwater treadmill. She does so great on it (8 straight minutes today walking with her back legs!) and we can't replicate that at home. So we have some decisions to make in the next couple of weeks! |
It is so great to hear how much stronger she is getting. I am sure you will make all the right decisions just as you have been all along. You and Scott are both such great people. Layla is a doll! Hugs to all of you. :animal-pa |
I wonder if it would be possible to build a little treadmill in a fish tank so she could have water therapy at home. Or one that you could put in the bathtub. ??? It's so wonderful that Layla is trying so hard. |
Last night we gave Layla a haircut, and with the vibrations of the clippers on her back, her legs were pushing and twitching almost the whole time! Not to mention her tail moving all around! Okay, once it was because she started pooping, but the rest counted! We gave her a bath later and every once in awhile her butt end would start popping up because she was using her back leg muscles. Her vet just called me and said this was the best acupuncture day she's ever had. She had tons of movement and was moving the whole time. I told her about how much she moved last night and she said "Yeah, she's really sensitive right now!" and also said how great it is to still see this much improvement being so far along. The vet also saw her standing up, but we're still going to try to get a video for you guys! She's getting better :) |
I have happy tears for Layla right now. She is a fighter and a true inspiration for us all. |
Lindsey, I was so happy to read these last two posts!:D Decisions, decisions! You'll work it out. Sending you all the best!:) |
