I HATE ticks but I've gotten so used to them. They're so common around here. While Jackson was on Frontline last summer, he got probably around 10 of 'em. We switched to K9 Advantix but he did test positive for Lymes back in December and got put on a 30 day antibiotic, and was limping from the Lymes for a few days.

I needed one of these this morning. I was getting ready for work and felt something on the back of my ear and it was a tick:eek: I got it out which wasn't easy as I was home alone. My skin is still crawling!!!

Can you believe I just bought this last week when I was at the petstore? And it is so lightweight that I pulled out my dog food and dog treats and threw out the bag so now I have to get a new one. Glad to hear they do work!

Oh no!:eek: Yuck! The only think worse than finding a tick on your dog is finding one on you! I actually keep having the heebie jeebies and keep thinking I have a tick on me so I can totally relate!

Fleas are even more frustrating to deal with. Just pull that tick off your dog and flush it down the toilet. Now fleas just jump and bury themselves so you can never find them. Even when you do get them, do dont seem to die when you pinch them with your fingers. They are the worst to find and kill.

OMG - how do you get a tick on YOURSELF? i don't mean that in a condescending way, but sincerely would like to know!

i had a tick in my head when i was a kid because i had woods behind my house and i was always playing in them (with trees above me) but as an adult - how does that happen?

i thought you had to be really close to trees or in the grass for them to get on you.

okay, don't make fun of me if that's a stupid question. i'm just wondering.

I have no idea how it got on me!!! I haven't been in the woods or grass. I did help DH mow the lawn Thur evening, I was trimming while he mowed. I don't think I got it then though because it was stuck in really good and from the size had been there at least 2 or 3 days. We do live on a farm so we may have carried it in on our clothes, as we have found them crawling up pants legs before:eek: after being out in the fields.

could be from trimming as was reading in dog watch newsletter i get about ticks and they wait on tops of grass then jump on you or dog - doesn't take much to get them on you per this article

you have to put them in alcohol to kill them as flushing them down the toilet will not even kill these things it said

They are hard to kill, we always pick them up with tweezers if we spot one and burn it with a lighter until it is dead. I will try the alcohol next time I see one.

yeah the dog watch article from cornell said to drop them in alcohol

I recommend getting that publication along with the tufts one - very informative

We found 2 ticks on Sandy this morning. Both my fiance and I were freaked out. We're bringing him to the vet today to remove them and get him checked. He hasn't act like himself for 2 days and now we know why! I hope he'll be fine.

I hate ticks. I got 3 of them on me in 1 day when we went for a walk in the park - we've quite serious ticks problem here, that is why I'm vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis.

yeah in the article it said to check them over any time they come in from outside if in a tick area

:)Nasty lil boogers arent they.

Its ok, the fact that is big and fat means its been there awhile, but the good news is, doesnt sound like a deer tick, those are ones who are the nastiest, very small and carry lyme disease.
Where I live ticks are a big problem. YOu dont dare go to the woods without a hat.

if there are deer in your area then deer ticks are usually there and i believe ohio has deer ticks as dh family lives there in twinsburg

your vet should know if ticks are an issue in your area

lyme disease is not the only risk with ticks there are other things :( It is best to find them on the dog as early as possible and get them off so make sure to check your dog if in a tick area and read the links about ticks
