Strange behavior I have noticed a couple times in the last few days that Olive will cry out when she has to go potty as if she's in pain. She'll then spin around like she's trying to get to her butt. I can't help but think it hurts her to go potty :( She's also dragging her butt on the ground a little bit. I was trying to get a look at her butt but she keeps moving her tail in the way... Last time we were at the vets we were told she was worm free and I can't physically see any worms... I hope she's okay! I plan on calling the vet tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or advice... Thanks in advance. |
The only thing I can think of with this would be her anal glands need to be cleaned. I am no expert and I would call the vet to see what they say. I hope that she is better soon. |

You are welcome, I wish I was more help but I am only human and just let you know of ideas.;) |

Lucy acts just like that if she gets a little poop stuck back there. Usually, all I have to do is put her in the tub and wash off her bottom in the running water; then she's fine. You would think she had something major going on back there the way she acts . . but it's usually, for her, it's just poop stuck under her tail or in her fur. Good Luck! |
Thanks. I did notice a couple minor mats back there and I sat her down last night and brushed them out. She hasn't complained since, but she also hasn't had to go potty yet, so we'll see if that helped! Hopefully that will save me a vet bill since we're going on Thursday anyway :) |
I agree with the poopy stuck back there but I would also have the anal glands checked. Also some females get urinenary(MS) tract infections. Just to be on the safe side, a vet visit would ease your mind. |
You mentioned crying out when she goes potty, does she cry while she does pee pee? If so you may want to try getting a urine sample for the vet. I hope she feels better soon. |
Ok, I'll call them and see if we can get in today then. |

I'm glad you are making an appointment with the vet, safest bet! Could be the anal glands. Also something to think about if she is straining a lot and having a difficult time. You can mix in a little bit of pumpkin with her food, that can help with that! |

I've never heard of the coconut. Just the pumpkin. Usually if they have anal gland problems they will drag their bottoms on the floor. I suppose she could be constipated. |
*shivers* Horrible memory... Magnus acted similiar when he had that rectum prolapse. I'd definitely take up on Reese1's advice with the pumpkin. And make sure Olive's bum is clean. I know it's difficult to see since they move around so much and won't show you but do what you have to. I wish I did. Then my pup wouldn't have had to go through such horrible experience so young. I hope Olive feels better! |
