Diarrhea following grooming every time...HELP!
 
My 3 year old Yorkie Riley always comes back from grooming and is sick. She has diarrhea for three to four days, eats a bit and does drink. I have tried different groomers thinking it was a stress issue, and with each groomer I have tried I get the same issue. Anyone have any clues for me? She was groomed Saturday and has been having diarrhea since, is drinking though and urinating....I am sorry if this posted somewhere else, I am not very good at this blog, thread, posting stuff, so if I stepped on toes...apology. I cannot groom her but am afraid to groom her!! Thank you!!:aimeeyork

Awwww, I'm so sorry that grooming appears to upset her so. I have a couple rescue Yorkies that I have just decided that it isn't worth the fear they feel at a groomers. I do the grooming myself even though it looks like the pits. Hope someone else reads your thread and will offer some solutions. Good luck. ~Joanne~

Hi and Welcome to YT!

First I'd have my vet check her out for anything medical going on with her.

I give all mine probiotics with enzymes, because it can help prevent diarrhea (esp during stressful events), and helps with their digestion.

It still can be stress related... have you tried a mobile groomer or one who makes housecalls? Maybe having her groomed in her own house would be much less stressful, no other dogs around and such.

Hope you can find out the cause...

sounds like stress colitis- do you leave her at groomers? if so you may want to consider a mobile groomer that comes to your home as less stressful I find as i do that with mine now and i help with grooming by holding them etc. If not i recommend doubling up probiotics with a little pumpkin it will work like a charm. If they get stressed the intestines get inflamed and that is when the colitis starts. First starts as diarrhea and if it gets bad enough goes into vomitting :(

lol i just read yours we are on the same page for sure lolll but do you do enzymes separately than probiotics as i have always heard you do probiotics 20-30 min before food and enzymes go on the food to help digest and i know some products mix them together and did not like that ;(as they are to do two different things

my dee dee gets like this when she goes to the vet :( and sometimes she will vomit - so sad - it is hit and miss though

first you want to do fecal but if you have done that and it is stress related and happens each time then i would do the pumpkin with probiotics mixed together 30 min before food twice a day

i use dds plus from vitamin shoppe and have for 2 plus years as it is non-dairy

Maybe u can bathe her and take her to the groomers only when she really needs a trim or something. My Tobias hates the groomers, some more than others, so I started to bathe him at home. Read all the tips, like cotton balls in ears and not too much shampoo, etc. I'm still afraid to clip his nails and I'm thinking about getting that nail filing tool for dogs. So I only take him to the groomers quarterly and for nail trims.

Also a couple vets recommended for my dog when he had heavy diarrhea to mix 40% gatorade with his water to help his sugar levels up and give him an appetite again. Not sure if it's the best way, but he started eating the same day and it wked. Good Luck!

that is what i do - i bath mine and then the mobile groomer comes and does the super cuts version of dog grooming lolll nails and trims

Your baby is absolutely suffering from stress. I have a Champion female that was perfectly fine from Monday through Friday....just before ring time, she'd start in with the runs.....would continue through the weekend. My mentor/her breeder said that it was most likely the food I was feeding her. Impossible in my mind because she was fine Monday through Friday and only suffered this problem on show weekends. One show weekend it was a bit worse, the diarreah was followed by bright red blood. Scared the heck out of me. My breeder gave her anti diarreah med. Well Monday, I picked my mentor up and went to our vet. Explained what had been transpiring and all the particulars. He explained that what she was experiencing was show jitters/stress. He prescribed flaygl....a 1/4 tablet on Friday morning before travel, and a 1/4 tablet each day until we returned home.....worked like a dream.....continued this until she Championed and she never had an issue again. My mom's little Biewer girl Jazzy has stress colitis also. She would have the diarrhea every time she went to the groomers. My mom does the grooming herself now and she rarely has issues anymore.

Wylie's Mom suggested I use Dogzymes. It is naturally occurring probiotics, digestive bacteria, enzymes, and prebiotics made for dogs. She says to use the kind made for dogs as the kind made for humans may not function as expected in the dog's system due to differences in stomach acids. I believe that the Prebiotics cause this product to remain in the gut 24/7 if dosed daily, allowing it to be dosed with the food instead of prior to feeding. In a normally functioning system, they would all be present at the same time, bacteria remains in the gut,enzymes introduced as food is eaten, triggering the pancreas to release enzymes and the gall bladder to release bile to aid digestion.

yeah i am not a big fan on dog products lolllll for this anyway. Another person started their dog on this product and it had diarrhea when the dog never had diarrhea before. I have just always been told probiotics are to be given 20-30 min before food to coat the stomach prior to food being introduced and then enzymes are only to be given to dogs not on raw diet as raw diets have natural enzymes so you add the enzymes to cooked food and processed food to help them digest them faster. I just think they do not use as high of quality of stuff many times in dog items. I could be wrong but just what i have read in being on dog nutrition groups on yahoo.com
