Days of Diarrea- Please help! Hello can anyone help me w/ Roscoe's diarrea problem? He's had diarrea for the last few days now. He's still very playful and had an apetite and drinking water the entire time. I started him on plain white rice and it only seems to have helped in him going once a day versus several times a day. Has anyone had the same problem and know what I can do to help? |

If you can't get in to the vet right away, get some canned pumpkin. Not the pie filling, just plain pumpkin. Teaspoon a day will help bulk up the stools. But with several days of the D, vet should absolutely be your first step. Mardelin is 110% correct, these little ones can dehydrate quickly with diarrhea, even if they seem to be drinking normally. |
Thanks all! I would have already brought him in to the vet except he is acting 100% normal this whole time- has been eating/drinking/playing the same. Not acting lethargic or sick at all. He still begs for food when he sees me eating and was very energetic and playful all day. |

What are you feeding him besides the white rice? |
I only wait 24 hours, if I can't stop it, off to the vet.....too many things can affect the digestive tract of these little guys. Their digestive system is their downfall. |

They can act perfectly normal and still have something wrong with him. |
I have been feeding him plain white rice w/ just a tad of his kibble. I tried to give him a bit of chicken today. he's playing w/ his "hump" toy right now and was running around. it's so bizarre he's not acting sick at all. i was going to try immodium next if he has another episode. there was a bit of consistency to his bowels this last time but not much. |

Have you changed food recently?? If not, I would get him in to see the vet....acting normal or not...if you care for your dog take him to the vet... |
Sweet Pea has been having diarrhea and a bit of vomiting since Sunday. So Monday i gave her white plain rice. She ate that all day and drank just fine. Her diarrhea was mustard yellow in color. Today i gave her a small bit of kibble and rice and she threw it all up and still has diarrhea so i called the vet and we went in. The vet says she may have eaten something that upset her tummy and she gave us some bland low fat low protein food. If she throughs that up we will have to do bld work, xrays...ect... The vet said that no matter how much they seem "fine" that these little ones can get dehydrated VERY easy even if they are drinking water, the water is coming out as the diarrhea. She also told me no pumpkin as that has too much fiber. But to get some Pedalite. Please call the vet and get your puppy in just to see what is going on. Why not just pay the small consult now instead of a BIG bill later on because you waited too long to bring your puppy in? Or worse?? |
how often do they normally have to drink water? |
