Diagnosis Giardia....but no symtoms! I keep posting in General but getting no response..so I hope someone can help me here.... We got Bella, valentines day, and took her in for first visit, that week, coarse they gave me bottle for sample and said to bring it back next visit, which was like 3 weeks later. .. We went in I took sample, and we left on vacation 2 days later, which they knew. when we got home there was a voice message from the vet, saying she tested positive for Giargia, and asked if there was any diarreha,..NOPE nothing, she is active, eats and seems just fine. We picked up 2 meds, and started her on them, as I was reading everything I could get my hands on (I have never heard of it)...in reading it all, I read that the one shouldnt be given to small puppies, Bella was 1.9 at vets...and how hard it is to diagnosis, even with symptoms.. Bella, started to vomit, night before last...but was really nothing, last night she vomited and I dont know what it was...I am so worried I am goving her meds for something she doesnt even have..and it is making her sick! I have call into vets, but havent heard back.... sorry so long, I wanted to give all details....anyone know anything about this? |
Sometimes they don't have the symptoms that go along with giardia. Sometimes their poop is just dark and greasy looking . . .Brody had it and it took 3 different types of meds to clear it. The first meds he took made him very sick. I believe it was Metronidazole . It made him throw up and he wouldn't eat. I called the vet immediately and he switched him to something else, and then after the 2nd stool test still tested positive, he them gave him a liquid which cleared up that nasty parasite. Sorry I can't be of more help. |
I had the same thing happen a while back. I thought they gave me someone elses test. At the end the dog vomitted. I just finished the meds. The dog was tested later and she was fine. I don't think there are symptoms initially. That bug seems to be in the air!!! |
I have no experience with Giardia, but I was reading this and hope it will be of some help to you. I'll leave the link as well, so you can see where it came from.:) I had a rough time with giardia at my house. I believe Juju had it when I got her. Then, Betty got it. They were treated...tested negative...but still had symptoms. The vet sent the next sample to an offsite lab. Giardia was still present. I paid several hundred dollars between testing, meds and office visits. And I'm still not positive it is gone. If you do get her, just make sure that she has been treated...clean up the bathroom area very well, with bleach if possible, because the pup can also reinfect herself. You also have to clear her tail end often. It's not always this hard to eradicate, but it can be. And be aware that the test that the vet performs inhouse is NOT as accurate as the one is that they send to a lab. So, even if she tests negative, check the stool daily because that is a better indicator. Good luck. I'm not trying to disuade you from getting her, only to let you know that you do have to be vigilant. Giardia? |
Im sorry that your dealing with this, but Im afraid mine has never had this, so I can't be any help. Sending good thoughts to you and your baby though. |
