Pseudo Cushings & Hair Loss I have a current foster who was just diagnosed with pseudo cushings. He has quite a bit of hair loss and the vet has suggested giving Melatonin a try. I have done a lot of reading and it seems that this does work in a lot of cases. I am looking for someone who may have a pup with this diagnosis who may have tried this. |

I know Wylies mom has posted threads regarding Cushings. Not sure if it's different from pseudo cushings. Contact her, maybe she can answer you. Good luck with you foster pup. Hope he get's better. |

Yes, it is different. Her Wylie has atypical cushings. Pseudo Cushings is a cosmetic issue...they look like they have it in that they lose hair, but they do not actually have it. Cushings is a very complicated illness...and I have found pseudo cushings to be even more baffling. They have HAC, but do not have the clinical signs so it is not actually cushings. They say Melatonin helps with the hair replacement...I just had never heard of it and wondered if anyone had done this. Cannot really hurt anything....just very curious about it. Thanks! He is actually not ill. He just does not have much hair! We are working on a new bio for him now that we know for sure what it is. Probably going to say his mother was a yorkie and dad was a traveling chinese crested. :D |
LOL I was pretty certain you know about Wyliesmom and cushings but when you see things like this it will haunt you if you don't say something. Good luck with the little one. I am happy he's not in any discomfort. |
Hey Linda, Which one was diagnosed? |

Sunny D!! I am SO relieved that it is not cushings! |
Is this the boy that was found tied up in front of a post office or something? Sonny? He had a big burn of some kind on his back and was missing a lot of his hair. |

Oh, I totally appreciate that you posted! Thank you...no he is fine and such a happy boy!! :) |

Yep, he is the one! Had a sign saying he needed a home. :( It turned out not to be a burn and the hair came back in that area, but his hair is very sparse to none on his trunk. He is adorable and OH, SO SWEET!! Everyone who meets him loves him! |
YEA...we love you Sunny D. Are you going to try a topical Melatonin? |
Love that little Sunny D! LOL! Too funny about his dad, wonder what he was selling? Seriously though, hope you find some good info out. When I got Winnie and Ruppi they had no hair on their little ears and after a few months with me they both started growing hair again, possibly the food?? |
L~ Does it bother him to wear clothes? |
hmmm...what about biotin? |
Treatment of Pseudo-Cushing’s disease: Dogs with this disorder may respond to castration, methyltestosterone, melatonin, growth hormone supplementation, mitotane and trilostane. Sorry, I am being DR GOOGLE |

He is neutered, so scratch that. All of the others are out...except for the melatonin. The last two are cushing meds and they are not without risk...I would ONLY give them to a pup with cushings. This is a cosmetic issue...no reason to put him at risk of problems with meds. Hahha..you are funny! :D |
