YT prayers needed Last night as Oliver and I were getting into bed, I noticed a lump on his back. It's under the skin and hard. I'm freaking out. I lose my last dog to cancer and it was the most horrific 6 months of my life. Lost lots of people to it lately, too. I'm reading that the rabies vaccine can cause lumps that eventually go away - Oliver WAS vaccinated last Tuesday... so I hope and pray that that's all it is, a reaction to the vaccine. I'm going to call the vet from work today... Please keep him in thoughts and prayers... he's been through hell and back and deserves a good, long life. He's finally learning that life is good and that he's loved. |
Oh no! Geez I am sorry to hear this, but like you said he just got his rabies shots so perhaps it is just an inflammatory reaction from the shot. Will keep him in my thoughts and prayers, please keep us posted. |
Chances are that lump it from his rabies vaccine but I can understand your stress from worring. Hopefully it will start to go down, keep a close eye on it. Finger's crossed that's all it is. Hugs, |
Sending thoughts and prayers for Oliver and for you. I would think it is prob from the rabies shot. I would call the vet to be sure though. |

it disappeared but when she went for her final injection and rabies it appeared again. it has got smaller but not totally disappeared - that was in January. but it doesnt seem to cause her pain and like i say it is getting smaller so i wouldnt worry too much about it. I know hers didnt appear straight away, it took a week or 2 before it popped up. if he is young i wouldnt worry about cancer at this stage - but have him checked out. Take him to the vet who injected him and just show him and see what he thinks. they can usually tell from the feel of the lump and its characteristics if it's a problem or not. |
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Oliver. Good luck with the Drs exam and let us know what the outcome is. |
I pray Oliver is just having a minor reaction to the injection. Please keep us posted. |
Prayers sent for Oliver...I do believe I've heard, quite a few times, that a lump is sometimes a reaction to that horrible rabies shot...But, if you are praying for him, I'd say it is as good as done, that he will be o.k. :) |
Prayers From Me an Lucky Hope he feels better, but if worst comes to worst, dont worry my cousin has a rotwieler with cancer hes had it since he was 4 and is 13 years now with proper medication and lots of love i promise you everything will be okay no matter what the outcome ~~~~~~~~HUGS~~~~~~~~~ |
Mine had the same lump after her rabies shot, it took awhile to go away, but it did. Its common, If your concerned I'd just call and ask the vet. It might put your mind at ease. |
my border collie had a lump on her shoulder and i was SURE it was cancer after i RUSHED her to the vet it was her mircochip it had migrated into her shoulder ( which they can do i didnt know!) and caused a lump to form so it might be this dont worry until you have the facts you'll just make yourself sick |
update Thanks everyone for your good thoughts, prayers, and advice. I did talk to the vet, and she thinks it is from the rabies shot. The timetable for this is perfect, so she told me just to keep an eye on it - if it causes pain or seems to get bigger, bring him in. I feel a LOT better about it.. I was seriously freaking. We are going to bed very early tonight, as I didn't sleep a wink last night, lol. |
