WOW Thank you everyone for your kinds words, thoughts, and prayers. It is so nice to have a community here that understands how special the Yorkie breed is to one another and really help out when we are in need. You all have offered great advice and collumns that I have read. Thankfully, Greysen has been a trooper getting through the weekend. He has been sleeping a ton and been carried everywhere we go. (thankfully we have two strollers that he rotates to and from so he can follow us where ever we go:) ) The vet gave us pain medicine and also an antibiotic to get through the weekend, so no infection should occur. (Boy did those amputation stories scare me!) Like I said, Monday at 11am is the BIG day! At this point, we are going to do whatever it takes to take care of him, even if that does mean getting in debt. He is my baby boy and it kills me to see him in pain. I will keep everyone updated and tomorrow say a little prayer. Thank you again and I will be in touch!!!! x0x0x0

Thank you very much for everyone's support with my little angel. We just got home from the surgeon and he goes in tomorrow for surgery to fix his leg. $2200!!! Let that be a lesson how fragile teacup yorkies can really be. My little guy has had a rough week. Just keep him in your thoughts tomorrow as even the surgeon said they are risks with anesthesia since he only weighs 2lbs :(

I will keep your baby inmy thoughts and prayers. I feel badly that this happened . Accidents are sso easy for thse tiny yorkies to become hurt. Perhaps when he gets all better and well , you might want to consider buying doggie stairs for Graysen. I certainly hope tommorow goes well . :aimeeyork

Lauren I am so sorry some of the responses were so negative to you. If the people responding that way knew you they would know how much you love your little boy and that you will do what is best for him. I pray for a smooth surgery with No complications and that his leg heals perfectly. please keep us updated!

Good luck to you and you're little guy tomorrow! I'm sure everything will go smoothly. Surgery really is the best thing for these types of injury, but it is expensive and yes a lesson to be learned to be extra extra careful with the little ones, even though accidents can happen so easily. :) He'll probably won't be himself for a day or two but after that they typically are fine! Sometimes the 3rd day after surgery is tough on them too. That's when the anesthesia is wearing off. The hardest part is keeping them confined after the surgery I find, especially if they are a puppy. You'll notice how much less pain they are in after a few days and it will make you feel so much better. It gets easier as the time passes too. Also, I got the stairs for my puppy too, but they are the six step ones. I thought it was the right size for my bed (even though I probably won't let her up on it), but they are way too high and they scare the crap out of me. I think they look way too dangerous for my little one and the step width is so small. I might have to find a different type of just get some really big pillows to put down around the sofa/chairs if she decides to jump up on them. Anyways, hope all goes well and keep us updated on how your little guy is doing. :)

You do realize that there are NO teacup yorkies, don't you?

Isn't "teacup" yorkies just a term/word anyways to describe smaller than breed standards. Those being yorkies less than 4 lbs? I don't understand why everyone says there is no such thing when really it's just a term/word and everyone knows there are yorkies out there that are below the breed starndard of 4-7 pounds. Don't see the big deal using the word teacup to associate it with those Yorkies smaller than breed standards. Maybe I'm wrong though? People will breed smaller than standard size yorkies and if people want to buy them then they have every right too IMO. Sure there are more health issues with smaller yorkies than the breed standard and some may not consider it "ethical" or right, but there's no stopping those who breed smaller than "standard" size and these little guys deserve just as much love as those that are breed standard size. Anyways sorry for bringing this thread off topic with my thoughts..:D

There are people who really truely believe that a teacup yorkie is a separate breed or category. This is an informative forum, so I was just informing. Had she said "tiny" yorkie that would have been a descriptive term.

The breed standard is NOT 4 to 7 pounds, it is Not to Exceed 7 pounds, so there is no "smallerthan standard" only "larger than standard" but even if it is a 20 pound yorkie, it is still just a yorkie.

I have had people tell me that my 5 pound yorkie is a teacup, because it looks just like their sisters yorkie and hers is a "registered teacup".

So I posted that for informational purposes only, not to start a debate.

Really? I never heard that before - people believing that a teacup yorkie is a totally separate breed or category. Strange. I thought most just thought teacup meant smaller size. Who knew. I know you were just informing too and not trying to start a debate. I didn't think that. :) What's a " registered teacup " if there are no "teacup" yorkies???

I think people think Yorkies come in different sizes like Poodles do.

I just can't get over how anyone would buy a Yorkie without first going to the YTCA to find out what the standard is. Shouldn't that be the first step in your research with any breed?

Thank you so much for your prayers! Greysen's surgery went great, however the surgeon is still worried about the healing process. She said it is like putting tooth pics back together ;( He is still going to be in a splint for 6 weeks after the surgery. I am emotioinally exhausted.... I wish he was at home with me right now! I get so worried that he isn't going to eat or something,,,, i dont know I am paranoid. anyways, thank you again and I will keep you updated

I knew about the whole teacup thing, but i still call my babies that (sounds like you should start a whole new thread with your "informative" information). just saying.... back to his surgery though, it went well. he is still there for the night though which really sucks. this is the first night without my baby. i feel like this is the beginning of a long road to recovery...

I'm so glad it's over and little Greyson is out of surgery.

Those tiny bones can be very difficult to heal, but we'll be praying for little Greyson!

I was just responding to earlier posts about the "teacup thing" at the same time you were updating us.

Awee. So glad to hear that everything is going well so far and surgery went well too. It gets easier as the time goes on! My little girl just passed her 2nd week of recovery and you'll be surprised at how soon they are themselves again. :) The first few days will be tough, but believe me you are through the toughest part, all the worrying, running to vets, the surgery, etc... :) You're little guy probably won't want to eat much the first day or two. He'll appear to be pretty depressed too but that's a result of the anesthesia and his body getting use to the meds. That's how my girl was. But I did make sure to feed her some baby food and some yogurt. I put the food on her medicine syringe and gave it to her with her pain meds and she would lick the food right off while taking her medicine too. :) You can also try rubbing nutri cal on their gums too to make sure their blood sugar doesn't get too low if they aren't eating that much the first few days. :) Hang in there. You're little guy will be home soon and things will get much much better! :)

Wonderful news!! So glad everything went well. :)

Today was the Cincinnati Yorkie Meet-Up (arranged and managed by Lauren) and it was so great to see little Greysen doing so well. Attached is a picture of the meetup and you can see Greysen with his blue cast on Lauren's lap. (Lauren is in the front row second from the left.)

Greysen mostly stayed in the dog carriage, away from all the activities. He was a real trooper and I think he would have been running around, if he could have done this . :D

Awww, thanks for sharing that picture it is wonderful. Sorry I missed this thread Lexi and I would of sent all our prayers to little Greysen with happy thoughts for a speedy recovery. I am so happy to see him doing so well and Lauren you look so happy with your little furbabies....gueeeze why is Florida so far away sure would love to be part of your meet-up. Lexi would love to meet all your adorable furbabies. Great picture of you and your hubby too Lisa...love little Piccolo and Vivi they look toooo cute. Glad you all had a great time....and best wishes to you Lauren he is very lucky to have you to love him :)
