Concerned for my yorkie's health I have 2 yorkies (2 yr old Max and 6 mo Butters). My concern is with Max. He's acting and eating normally but will have bouts of vomiting (it looks like more undigested dog food than his stomach should hold) horrible smelling gas, and odd stools. I will elaborate on the stools; it started out with, what I thought was, an upset stomach. He had a lil' bit of diarrhea that seemed to go away. Then he started passing this slimy dark brown/red stuff ( he will even do this in his kennel although he's been kennel trained for over a year). The smell of these stools is almost undescribable-my husband came close when he said it smelled almost like a decaying animal carcass. Upon cleaning up the mess I noticed that these stools are "sticky". As I said before his appetite, energy level, and personality has remained the same. Both boys get along well and he's still a good big bubba! I've had experience with hunting dogs but he's my first yorkie & I've never seen anything like this. We don't feed him table food, haven't changed his diet, or anything else. If anyone has ran across something like this or has any suggestions please let me know. Thank you in advance for your concern and help! :aimeeyork |
how long ago was he last checked by a vet?? I would start there. |
I agree. Sounds like he needs to be seen by your vet. I would take a fecal sample with you when you go. |

I agree...I think your vet really needs to see the fecal sample, it would be very helpful. |
How long has this dog been having this problem? From what you describe as the smell of the stool it could be Parvo. Parvo dogs have a distinct odor and once you have smelled it you never forget it. Also pancreatitis can cause some foul smelling stool. I would get this dog to the vet ASAP to rule out anything life threatening. |
Ok that's odd, anyone know why my font just changed size all by itself ? Oh see it changed back. |

He definitely needs to go to a vet. I dont think it is parvo if it comes and goes...they usually decompensate rapidly; but it is a possibility. I hope she takes him in asap. |
Thanks for everything.....I have an appt with his vet today! I will let you know when I find out something. |

Good luck! :) Fingers crossed that it is something simple and easy to treat. |
Sounds like some sort of IBD. What food are you feeding? Could he have gotten into anything strange??? When TJ has slimey, large, foul smelling poops, it is bc he has IBD and something isn't sitting well, or he has bacteria overgrowth in his GI track, or not even fiber in his diet. I hope the Vet will help ;) Please keep us posted :) |

oh and when they do fecal pay for the grand daddy one as it checks everything that is how we found out dd had clostridium and that was stinky diarrhea but it was watery diarrhea if it was parvo i think he would be acting really sick |
