OMG! HELP ME!! I don't know what's going on with my dog! the last couple of days my dog has been acting 100% normal except for one thing, she has been yelping - the same yelp she makes when hurt - or wants to get out of her crate. anyway, when i look at her to see what's wrong- she stops and runs to me. i check her as best i can, see nothing and so i figured she'd figured out how to get my attention by yelping quickly. she did it again this morning (it was the 3rd time) and it bothered me so i decided to bring it up at her appt which was today. i mentioned it to the vet during her physical that she'd been doing that and he said to watch her and let him know if anything else changed because i'd need to come back. he didn't find anything wrong. well, tonight i FINALLY caught her in the act (before i'd only hear it and it was like a .5 second yelp) about 30 mins ago. she was curled up and yelping in pain - this time it was no quick yelp. her mouth was open and she had her legs up towards her face. and looked like she was trying to bite at her bottom or stomach...it was hard to tell with all the squirming. OMG! i'm going to doctor first thing tomorrow, but does anyone know what this could possibly be? has anyone experienced this before? is it a tapeworm (can they cause this kind of pain), cramps, or something?! my mind is all over the place!!!! she is going into heat right now - in case that matters. and she is 1 years old. my poor baby! i'm so worried!!! :( p.s. what kind of pet insurance are you all using? i think i\'m going to get some. this has my nerves on edge. |
did the vet not mention if she is in heat? |
Could be due to her heat, but you may want to ask the vet to be sure. |
Im not trying to be funny, but are you sure she dosent have poop stuck on her butt? my dog does that some times he\'ll eat off the floor and he\'ll maybe eat a piece of hair so it get stuck coming out. he doesn\'t like it at all and he yelps like he\'s in pain and then go hide in a corner until someone comes to see whats wrong. |
Also maybe it\'s her anal glands |
thanks guys. no, it\'s not poop - i\'m always checking her butt and today just happened to be her bath day as well. i\'m HOPING it\'s nothing and has to do with her heat. i don\'t want her to be sick. the balling up and yelping is really scary! :( |
So sorry your little one is going through this. I\'m sorry I really don\'t know what it could be. I\'ll keep him in my prayers. Please keep us posted. |
It should most definitely not be worms, especially tapeworms. They usually cause no pain at all, even in humans. You don\'t normally know they have them until you see the itty bitty squirmy segments coming out of their butts. Look like little grains of rice. Impacted anal glands... who knows... let us know what the vet says... |
hey my female yorkie did this as well... when she was around one years old... she only did it a few times and then after a few times, she hasnt done it since and is almost 3, i think, if i remember right, it was about a month or 3 weeks before she went into heat... it hink it was like cramping or something, she doesnt do it now... but i know its scary, mine did it in the middle of the night i thought she got bit by a spider.... hope yours is okay |
I have never had any females in heat, so I don\'t have experience with it; but I am thinking it might be cramps as the previous poster suggested. I believe that pups are like humans in that some have a higher pain threshold than others. |
It sounds similar to what my 2 yorkies did when they had pancreatitis. My girl would yelp and curl up, and when I would pick her up she would cry. The vet found out she and her brother had a case of pancreatitis from greasy food they ate. |
Poor baby. How about a hot water bottle in her bed to help incase it\'s cramps. That always helped my daughter. I hope she feels better soon. |
UTI? its possible that bacteria is in the vagina, the urinary tract etc. Did the vet do a vag screen for basic infections that could cause her pain? She may not have all the symptoms, fever etc but may have some and pain being one of them? Could just be plain old behavior issue too... |
Really sorry to hear your little one is going thru so much pain..please let us know what this could be. |
Poor baby! I hope it\'s nothing serious... sending prayers your way! |
