Sadie got hurt today, any similar experience. Sadie was running up her puppy stairs to the bed today and fell from the top step backwards off of them. They are three high only, but she must have fell just right onto her leg or hurt it on the way up or something because she couldn't walk on it after standing up again. We took her to the vet and they gave her an anti-inflammatory injection and some more meds for helping her swelling over the next few days. She's putting a bit more pressure on it this evening, but still mostly holding it up and favoring it a lot. Anyone had any sprain, strain experience in their yorkies?? I think it's just a sprain, they said we could bring her in for x-rays if she doesn't seem to improve, but since she's putting some weight on it now, i think i'll hold off a bit and let her keep healing. She's never yelped or whined at all from this whole thing. What do you guys think?? |
poor little thing...I hope she gets well soon. |
Glad she is feeling a little better. They do make us worry. When Jersey broke his leg he yelped cried out in pain so maybe since your little didn't it's that bad. Hope she feels even better tomorrow:) |
Awe I hope she feels better soon! Xxxxx |
In January Sophie Kate took a dive off the back of our chair and fell on her side really hard (on hardwood floors). After I stopped freaking out and finally would put her down so we could see her walk she was limping, so off to the vet we went immediately, she had a strain to her hip (or as they called it badly bruised). They told me the same thing keep an eye on her and make sure she starts using it again - she did. It is so scary and I am sorry for your baby, I hope she gets better soon. |
Is it her front or hind leg? If she's holding up a hind leg, she may have slipped her patella or even torn her ACL. These toy breed dogs are so prone to leg injuries. If it were me, I'd probably get an xray done if she doesn't improve quickly. |
Sorry to hear about Sadie's accident. Hope she gets well soon. Our Pepper fell off our (low) couch some months ago, and fractured the growth plates in his knee. He was crying loudly when it happened. Thank goodness Pepper is fine now. But since then, I have been most worried about him jumping about, and he is not allowed on any beds anymore. |
So sorry Sadie got hurt hoping she gets better soon |
I hope she feels better soon. I think I would xray it.. somtimes these little ones can act tough when they break something. You don't want it to grow back wrong and her have a limp. |
A few months ago while we were staying at my parents for a weekend, Chloe tried to jump up on the guest room bed. It's one of those pretty tall beds, nearly waist high on me, and of course, she didn't make it. She landed pretty hard on her way back down and hollered. Scared me half to death, and she was pretty shaken for a couple of hours...just acted like she didn't want to move. But by morning, she was acting fine except she didn't want to jump at all, even onto the low couch that has never been a problem. By that afternoon, she was back to her normal self. She did learn her lesson about trying to jump on to the bed though! So...I would imagine that if Sadie recovers fairly quickly, then you're okay. If not, the x-ray sure couldn't hurt. Good luck! -C |
How is she today ? I worry about the same thing but don't have high steps - If she's putting weight on it it probably is a sprain and won't show in X-rays - but if she isn't putting weight on it - then I'd def do the xray... the good thing is the vet already checked - I've never dealt with a broken bone but wouldn't they be able to feel something ? Hope she's feeling better ! |

My Chanel did something similar years ago - she somehow climbed up on my KITCHEN table and jumped off onto tile (my husband had gotten up and forgot to push the chair against the table) ....but thankfully - after the really loud crying and me ready to rush to the vet .....she walked....I was so afraid to even pick her up and sat on the floor in tears thinking she broke her something ...I'll never forget that day. |
Awwwwww, poor Sadie...I hope she's doing better, today...And yes, I had a similiar experience, day before yesterday...When I called Apple & Buzz in, from the back yard, they came running...There is a 4 or 5" wood deck, and they, usually, just take a flying leap and land on it, but Buzz misjudged, and hit his front leg...He didn't scream or yelp, but layed down and had his leg (right front) sticking straight out and a few degrees to the right...I thought, for sure, it was broken, and was making a plan to get him to the emergency room...Since I was able to gently move his leg, towards his body, and he didn't cry, I figured it wasn't broken...When I stood him up, he limped for a while...after much belly rubbing, he finally let his leg relax and bent his front knee...I decided to wait and see how he was yesterday morning, and he was right as rain...I hope Sadie is right as rain, today...bless her little heart... |
Hope little Sadie feels better soon. |
well she's taking anti inflammatory meds today, and she's up and playful, still favoring the hing leg a bit, but she's at least putting it down more often and trying to put some weight on it. i think it must have been a sprain. the vet didn't feel a break or an LP, (which is what i thought it was going to be) so we're just going to keep letting her rest and take it easy as long as she's using it more and more we won't worry so much. hopefully she just keep feeling good and using it. thanks for the suggestions! i'll keep you posted. |
