Toby fell down the stairs last night  Toby fell down the stairs. It scared the life out of both of us. I never slept all last night I was so worried. He is totally himself this morning and is not in pain, but I am keeping a tight eye on him for the next few days to make sure there are no internal injuries. It was awful, I was expecting to find him lying at the bottom of the stairs. |
Sounds terrible. What happened? How many stairs did he fall down? You should do a light touch around his body. If he reacts to it, then it might indicate that he might have some kind of injury. But if he seems fine and is his usual self then maybe he is ok, but yeah definatley keep an eye on him. |

Anyway, I had just let him out to pee, and he was getting a drink so I headed back up the stairs, and heard him following me up. As I was going into the bedroom, all I could hear were the bangs of him falling down them. I can only assume he just lost his footing, and I think he must've been quite near the top. I have touched his body, and there is no reaction to pain anywhere, so I am satisfied at the minute. Any behaviour out of the normal and it will be straight to the vet. I think if I took him to the vet now, as he is with no apparent injuries, they would just tell me to monitor him anyway. |
wow what a lucky guy he wasn't hurt ! Are they wood stairs ? You could try a runner to add friction... Glad he's ok ! |
hope that he's okay. :) when we first got Hot Rod I think he tried to go up the stairs and fell after a couple. I heard thuds and then a yelp. That was 2 1/2 years ago, he is just now okay with going up the stairs but I follow right behind him. we have hardwood steps. |
Hoping Toby is ok today. Lucky little guy this time. Like V stated, can you put some kind of treads on the steps for safety? If there are none there at this time. |
Oh the horror! Glad that your baby seems to be ok. Like you said, just keep an eye on him for a few days :) :heart toKandi |
aww, i am so sorry to hear this! I would have been so upset too. How old is your yorkie?? If she's a puppy I would watch out for any brain damage. My neighbors dog is "slow" because she was dropped and hit her head when she was a puppy. Check her eyes and make sure she doesn't have a weird blank stare or anything. If she seems physically/ mentally ok then just let her rest for a few days, I'm sure she has to be sore. You said she's pretty much back to her normal self so my guess is she will be just fine! |
 How scarry, my last Yorkie feel down OR TUMBLED DOWN about 10 step onto concrete when she was young, she was okay, nothing was wrong with her, but i on the other hand was a total wreck!!!!:( She got her little motor running, jetted down the porch and hit those stairs and there she went.......................... ALL for a squirrel:rolleyes::rolleyes:!!! GLAD YOUR BABY IS OKAY PS She got that damn squirrel, days later...bit her on the forearm and I had to rush her the ER for testing...UHHHH  The squirrel was living in nearby in trees, it was injured becasue he was dragging its rear end around like it was paralyzed....never seen it after that episode, think he found new trees... |
I hope Toby is 100% okay, that must have been awful! Hugs to Toby! |
Glad he seems ok. |

Oh those tricky stairs! We've had some slips on our wood floors as our dogs got older. Teddy also never had good traction on them because he has long front legs. After a few tumbles, we could not take the stress anymore so we had a runner installed. It is much better and they are so much more confident on the stairs (in fact, too much so as they seem to like to monkey around mid-way down). |

This happened to Bailey not even two weeks ago. He went literally rolling down the stairs. I was literally screaming! He got up, shook and walked over to me as if nothing happened. I took him in my arms and made sure everything was ok and he wasn't hurt but I swear I lost 10 years right then... :( Quote:
