Remedy for swallowing earplugs?? I posted a message a couple of days ago that I thought my FB Chloe' had swallowed one of my husband's yellow rubber earplugs. I didn't see her do it but he said the earplug fell on the floor.. Chloe' ran over and grabbed it and took off running. She looked like she had something in her mouth.. I picked her up and she swallowed whatever it was. She seemed fine but as of today has not passed anything yet. This happened on Fri. My husband said he read online that you should give a puppy bread and water or a teaspoon of pumpkin to help move it along.. has anyone ever heard of this?? She did wake up early this morning (4ish) and started gagging like she had a fur ball stuck. She then spit up some bile. This happened 4 times in an hour. She acted fine when she got up this morning. Running and jumping as usual. I know if it doesn't come out soon I should take her to the vet but I was wondering what you all thought of the bread and pumpkin idea?? Apparently he read it on a couple of different sites.. this was suggested by vets and specificaly for puppies who have swallowed earplugs. |
I would take her to the vet to rule out an obstruction. Bilious vomit can indicate an obstruction. I've heard about pumpkin to help move things along, but if it is an obstruction or even partial obstruction, I don't think pumpkin would help. She may need an xray to be sure. |

Half of it came out! I was reading online and saw where a couple of people said their vets had recommended Vaseline. It sounded weird but after reading a bit I figured I'd try it. About a half hour or so later she poo'd and I saw something yellow.. sure enough part of it had come out. She must have biten it in half before swallowing it. The vaseline isn't something you'd want to do on a regular basis but I'd do it again in a heartbeat if another such situation arose again. Thanks Lord and all who responded :D Suz and Chloe' |

My dogs eat them all the time. My cockapoo Ripley looks on my nightstand for them.. I stop putting them there over a year ago. Sometimes it takes a couple of days to pass but they always pass them. They don't swell at all when wet so obstruction is extremely low. I guess I would feed my dog something to get them to poo before going to the vet. It gets pretty costly taking x-rays and such so I would only take mine if they started acting like they don't feel good. |

My Charm ate 3 of the green foam ear plugs a few months back. I took her into the vet after she vomited up the first one. My vet gave me medication to make it easier to pass and she later vomited up one more and the other came out the other end. It's scary I thought she was choking I never saw her eat the plugs and she was just 2 lbs at the time. |
Everything seems scary when they're so tiny!! Wonder what's with the fascination with Yorkies and earplugs :eek: |
Lexi will eat my earplugs if I leave them around! She passes them no problem. (She's 10+ lbs) |
