mucus discharge Hi, I need advice. I have a 5 year old yorkie. Female, not fixed. She has epilepsy and I have been afraid to have her have surgery. Today I noticed a clump of white mucus coming out of her vulva. I wiped it off. No smell. She has a little tiny amount, a small thread just now. She has no fever, she eats and acts normal. But I had a german shepherd that had this but was very sick. She had emergency surgery for infected uterus. Can't recall what it was called. I am worried. She cleans down there but not excessive. I have MS and have huge medical bills. I was dx 3 years ago. This is also why my emily has not been fixed. The vet is closed. Closed at noon today. Any ideas. Anyone else have this. I believe she was in heat last month. Finished a couple weeks ago. Maybe 3 weeks ago. I have 2 bichons too, so knowing for sure who is in heat is hard. They all act as if they are heat. There were spots around. But they are all super clean so you hardly ever see any spots anywhere. Please any help and info is so appreciated. Thanks again and I love this board. My emily is with me always, she keeps me going on my worse days. I am so afraid right now. |

This happened to my sisters silky last June and this past Feb. Vet said it sounds like she wad having discharge from being in heat, but she is spayed. We have wait until June to see if it happens again, if so they will do a hormone blood test and she may have to have a special surgery to remove any remaining uterus parts. Vet said it could have been a UTI, but the timing is weird... June and Feb sound more like a heat cycle...we just have to wait and see. I would def bring her to the Vet, if the discharge is still there, try to leave it, as the Vet can swab it and test it. Please keep us posted |
Thank you for your support and help. I know I need to take her to vet. I am just so worried. I just don't see any signs of sickness like our shepherd had years ago. She lived a long happy healthy life after that.:) It is going to be a long night for me. I don't have much confidence in the vets I have been to around here. Emily had swollen anal glands last summer and the vet wanted to do surgery right away. It was the first and only time it happened. I chose medicine and in 1 day it was all cleared up. I am just afraid they will want to do something that isn't needed. I guess thats why I am looking for any advice here aside from trying to not worry too much. Your all the best! Thanks so much. |
You may be worried about "Pyometra" , that is a very severe infection. I do not have any experience with it, but the symptoms are smelly discharge, fever , etc... you can check it out on this link: Pyometra - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Hopefully it is not what your girl has. My females get spayed at 5 and i never saw discharge like you are describing . Good luck XOXO |

Try not to worry hun and maybe get her to your vet as soon as you can for a check over he may suggest spaying her if you do not want to breed from her as this will rule out pyo and cancer if she was done. |
Any updates? It happened again to my sisters dog. They brought her in asap to the Vet. Did all sorts of bloodwork, including the hormone test. They do not think it is her heat (she is spayed as well). They put her on antib's and they want to do an ultrasound next :( |
