The only thing I can think of it being would be the liver (but I am by no means, an expert). I would make sure that the vet does a BAT (bile acid test) tomorrow. In doing this, you will have 2 numbers (one pre... then they eat... wait a couple of hours... and test again for a post number) to get the numbers. If it is liver problems then right now he has toxins built up in his body. Do you have any Lactulose? Humans can take it as well... or something else that will help him go to the bathroom? It will help clear them out (if it is liver shunt or MVD (microvascular dysplasia). For the rest of the night, do not feed him any kibble. If he is hungry, offer him lettuce, apples, bananas or something without protein in it, just in case.... is he still resting? |
I'm so sorry Bailey isn't feeling well. Do you think he could've possibly hit his head somewhere? Momo hit his head before while playing & he was wobbly & threw up couple of times. I rushed him to the ER & they did a full blood panel & x-rays. He was fine, just had a mild trauma to the head & disorientation. The doc gave him some doggy morphine & he was knocked out all night. He was back to his ol self the following evening. Just keep him calm & in a quiet dark place for tonight. Since he hasn't vomited again, wait til the morning to see how he is. If he's still wobbly & disoriented, I would take him in for an x-ray. |
Thank for the input, It is 4:30am here now, at 3am Bailey got up and went to poop, it wasn't his ordinary tootsie roll type poop, it was a lot softer and lighter in color. I checked his bum to make sure it was clean, Then he ran up the ramp and on my bed, so I lay down on the bed with him, shortly after I heard him making urging sounds again and he threw up white foam. Right afer this he went back for more water and seemed very thirsty. Then he went pee, and then laid down in one of his beds, that is where he is now. I can't sleep at all and feel emotionally drained right now, I'm afraid if I sleep something will happen. If I failed to answer any questions please forgive me. Thank you all again for the concern for my Bailey. |
Oh my Darlene! I am just now reading this and I don't know what to say except you are in my prayers. I couldn't read all the posts but I am sure you got some great advice. Please let us know! |
Just checking in for an update?? Hope Mr Bailey is feeling better...sending more prayers your way... You mentioned his poo was softer then normal...Do you think in got in to something he shouldn't have?? ate something that he shouldn't have?? Keep us posted.. |
Just checking in....have you tried giving him Nutrical or karo yet? He may need some extra sugar w/ the stress his body has been under. Will be watching for updates all day. Hugs to you both. |
Oh Darlene!! I'm so sorry Bailey is feeling poorly. My heart is breaking for you, imagining how scared you must be. I'm sending prayers and hugs for both of you. How is he feeling this morning? Is he still wobbly? |
Darelene, I thought of Bailey all night. How is the little guy this morning? |
I am familiar with where Darlene is living....and I fully understand her feelings aboout the local vet!!! Huh....Darlene probaly knows more herself!! I am thinking that maybe you should check the electricial cords for bite marks. But even though he got down for a small drink and walked the ramp sounds like he is slowly coming back to himself!! God please keep Bailey and Darlene in your hands!!!!! |
Oh Darlene, I'm so sorry just reading this, how is my beautiful Mr. Bails doing this morning. Could it be that little mr spunky just roughed housed it too much with the other dogs and maybe got hurt, saying this because you mentioned there were toughs of hair missing. Praying that he wakes up to his fiesty old self this morning. Sending prayers, positve thoughts and lots of hugs your way xo |
My heart goes out to you and praying for Bailey's recovery. My Scruffi this morning was shaky and inactive. No reaction to his treats...no reaction to his leash something definitely wrong!!! |
I can only imagine how you are feeling and no one to help you there. I hope your vet can find it in himself to help you find out what is wrong. Sending hugs and prayers... |
The only thing that comes to mind is a possible concussion. Since there is renovation going on, his fur was out of place, could he possibly have fallen from somewhere and landed on his head? Throwing up and being off balance can be a sign of concussion. Can your vet do an x-ray of his head? Prayer's coming his way. I hope and pray he feels better today Hugs, |
Oh Darlene I am just reading this. I feel so bad Bailey is sick. Please don't blame yourself you are the best mama Bailey could ever have. I would try holding back food and water for a little bit since Bailey is throwing up. That gives the stomach a chance to rest. You and Bailey are both in my thoughts. Hugs to you both. |

I hope Bailey is all better this morning, bless your hearts - how scary! |
Darlene, i am saying a prayer for little Bailey...Last night i got up around midnight and Sam threw up foam (and a piece of plastic from a water bottle) I was so freaked out i couldn't sleep at all (needless to say no more bottles as toys for him) He was fine this morning and i'm still a wreck, i can't even imagine what you are feeling. I will continue to keep him in my thoughts and i pray that your next update finds Bailey feeling better. |
Is there a chance he was abused by one of the other dogs? What are the other dogs, and how big? The tufts of hair bother me a little. If he was grabbed and bounced around he may have a slight head injury. How does he react when the other dogs are around him now? There's times here when I suspect Cindy was chasing Reesie and maybe playing a little too rough, and we'd see it in how she reacted to Cindy being around. Also, Cindy looked guilty as heck when we were checking out Reesie, like, 'did I hurt her?' |
Hoping the vets can give you some answer. Is there an airport near you? Maybe you can fly to a city to get better vet service? I'll be thinking about you and little Bailey. |
White foam means empty stomach after all the yellow bile is gone. If you have plain chicken breast, boil it in water w/white rice & give him a little. Hope Bailey is feeling better, will keep him in my thoughts & prayers. |
Darlene I am in tears now reading this. He is at the top of my prayer list today. Big hug to you~Joyce |
Darlene, I am so sorry to hear about Bailey! Please know you and Bailey are in my prayers! I hope you have answers soon! |
I am checking in for an update. I know you are probably with Bailey so I understand that you are not going to be on here all day just giving us updates. He is your number 1 priority. I really wish I was there with you, even if it is just to comfort you both. It sounds like it could also be a head injury. Is there anyway to get an xray? I am so sorry that you have incompetent vets in your area. Know that I am thinking of you and Bailey today and I will be checking in on him. I hope he has a quick recovery and that you are able to get rest as well. |

I was thinking the same thing as ReesiesDad. do you notice if Bailey or the other dogs are being a little strange around each other at all? Please give Bailey some gentle hugs from us. We will be sending good thougts and prayers that Bailey will get well! |
Continued prayers for you and Bailey! So very sorry that you are going through this Darlene. |
Oh Darlene, I am just now seeing this... I will be praying for Bailey to recover...Give him hugs and kisses for me.... |
I wish Dalrene would update us on Bailey...I'm very worried! Kisses to you and little Bailey!!!! |
Thank you Everyone! Around 6am or so Bailey was sleeping in his bed in the living room, so I decided I had better try getting some rest myself. I went to bed and finally went to sleep around 6:30 and was awaken by the phone at 9am by my bf Bill asking how Bailey was, and telling me he was going to drop over and see him and pick me up a coffee. Then I noticed Bailey was on the bed with me..I'm blind in the morning without contacts or glasses:rolleyes: Well I petted him down and got up and went to the kitchen, I hear Bailey and went to check and saw that he had done a runny poop, he went to lay down in the living room, I noticed he was not wobbling like hrs before. I brought him in some mixed vegetables, and he ate them like he was very hungry ( of course he was ) I petted him and told him I loved him and I needed him to get better. About an half hour later Bill comes to the door, Bailey heard him at the door and was already there to greet him, I was in the washroom at the time. When I came out to the living room, Bill was on the floor with Bailey and Bailey was jumping all over him, trying to bite Bill's goatee and seem his normal excite self, the way he usually acts when he sees my bf! He was running around, no more wobbles, his eyes seemed clear! My heart started racing, Bill sat on the sofa and Bailey went up the ramp on the sofa to join him, trying to get at a sub sandwich my bf had:D I'm am totally bewildered by this. Bill couldn't believe the difference, and I was almost to afraid this was happening, that he was going to be fine, afraid I might jinx it, He is still not 100% but so, so much better! I thank Everyone for your prayers, kind thoughts, PM's and input! This forum and so many of the members are the most kind caring people I've ever come to know! I still don't know what caused this, I wish I new exactly. I do not believe it was my bf's dogs, because they are very good with Bailey, I am leaning more to thinking he hurt his head. From now on if I have to leave him at Bill's alone, I will keep him in a gated room where he cannot get hurt!, I've learned my lesson, I thought I was going to lose him, I really did, I don't want to feel like that ever again. Please continue to keep my little Bailey in your thoughts and prayers for a full recovery. He still has a little ways to go, but I am hoping he will be completely better and this will all be a horrible lesson on my part. |
