diarrhea and shivering. please help! my yorkie is shivering and has diarrhea and i'm very worried about my little guy. we made a move to a new city after being home with my parents for almost eight months, due to an economic lay-off. i thought the shivering could be due to him being in a strange place and all the stress that goes along with moving, but this morning i woke up to diarrhea all over the floor. I'm starting to get worried. We're going to the vet tomorrow, but wanted to see what you guys think? PLEASE HELP ME! |

Are you finding any blood in his poop? It could be stress Colitis from moving and new home, etc. I would try to give him some pure pumkin, not pie filling. Shivering could mean pain so I don't know if i would wait til tomorrow, you may have to go today otherwise if you run into an emergency during the night it will be more costly. |
no blood. he's been sleepy lately, more so than before. i didn't think anything about that because we just moved and he could be tired from that. we just got back from the vet last week for his yearly and everything was great. i will find a vet and go today. thanks so much for your help. |

I am sorry your baby is not feeling well. I don't think I would wait until tomorrow if there is any way you can go to the vet today. Tomorrow is a long time, and he could get dehydrated. Along with the stress, I always worry about the differences in water from one city to another, as some add flouride and such. When I was showing animals, we always had to carry our own water because they either wouldn't drink, or would get diarrhea along with all the other stresses involved, similar to moving. Keep us posted. |
I am glad you are going to the vet today. I am sorry your baby is having troubles. I hope that everything turns out fine. |
I agree with the others. Take him to the vet today. Toy breed dogs dehydrate very quickly. Dehydration is very serious and can be life threatening as it can cause cardiac arrest. Taking him today instead of tomorrow may mean the difference between just getting medication and possibly subq fluids as opposed to being hospitalized tomorrow with an IV. It can also save you a big vet bill, especially if you have to take him to an ER vet tonight. |
Be careful with that pumpkin, it is LOADED with fiber which will make poop worse. Get to your vet for some meds and possibly a B12 injection. |

sam and i just got back from the vet! the vet said that he's going to be fine...we got two meds and some new food. she thinks it's due to stress brought on by the move. if his condition hasn't improved within a few days she said to come back. the vet was great by the way...glad i can check finding a good vet off my list of things to do! i just hate it was under these circumstances. |

Good news |
Hi! :aimeeyork This is my first post here! This happened to my little Morkie Ava just yesterday. She had soft stool in the morning, wasn't interested in eating and drank a lot. Throught the day, it got worse, and she also started shivering. I called the vet right away, and got her in within the hour. The vet said that there was no specific reason (she was acting completely normal, playful and loving). She gave her some special gastrointestinal food, and sent us on our way. In the middle of the night, I noticed that there began to be blood and mucus in her soft stool. I called the vet in the morning, and she said that it sounds as if it's Colitis, but since she is too small for the meds (3lbs), gave her some fiber food to move the infection through. She's still having the issue, but have only fed her once with the fiber food a few hrs ago. If it's not better in a few days, we are to go back to the vet. This is my first pet, and she's only 3.5 months, so it was a very scary experience! |
