Do I choose Lazer or going under the knife? So My little Philly will be 6 months March 15th and her apptointment has been made to have her spayed. The Vet highly recommended to have the Lazer procedure done vs. cutting....she will still have stitches but it's not as evasive as being cut. Has anyone had this done? Does anyone have advice of one vs. the other? It's more expensive but she is totally worth it. I also want to find out where to buy the E Collar...please give me some advice ..I am freaking out worrying about this procedure. We have no choice but to get it done though b/c my 5 year old male who hasn't been nuetered will not leave her alone...and we dont want any puppies....HELP  Proud Mommy to Dallas and Philly :animal-pa |
Our vet said that it takes longer to heal from the laser procedure and with the additional expense the surgical was fine. We went traditional with the surgery. I have a Softee collar that I sell for this purpose among other things. Check out the thread in my signature and feel free to pm with any questions. :) Best of luck with which every procedure you choose. :) |
Very cute , how much are these precious gems? |

By the way, Bo has the best softee collars. They are so much better than the tradition e-collars because they are soft and not as awkward. :D |

I had both of my girls done with using laser surgery. They don't bleed as much, it is less invasive that cutting, they had no stitches and they healed faster. It is a little more expensive but I felt it was worth it.. |
I dont know why your vet would tell you that a laser spay takes longer to heal, it is actually quite the opposite, there are no stiches, and recoup is much easier, it is much easier for both healing and surgery... I have a excellent vet and she advised me to have the laser spay not to just make the extra money but because it is easier on the puppy and much faster healing.. Also I never needed a collar for her there was really nothing to lick, she healed up in about 2 days.. she never bothered with it!! I did buy a infant onsie and put it on backwards but I didnt even need that.. she was fine she has barely if any scar.. no stiches. I HIGHLY recommend the Laser spay, if you google you will see it is a better option. Over 13 million pets are put to death in our nation's animal shelters each year for lack of homes, That is why responsible pet owners make sure that their pets are not contributing to this serious over-population problem. As much as we may want our children to witness the miracle of birth, the price we pay with unwanted puppies and kittens and the added health risks that we must then subject our pet too far overshadows the benefit. Even if you are able to find homes for the entire litter this means an equal number of kittens or puppies in shelters will lose potential homes. If you keep your pet confined, neutering may seem unnecessary. Just the opposite is true. In fact, there are medical and health advantages for the pet through neutering. Spaying or neutering your young, healthy pet will reduce certain infections and cancers that could occur in later Life. WHY DO WE USE A SURGICAL LASER INSTEAD OF CONVENTIONAL SURICAL METHODS? Surgical Lasers have been available in human medicine for serveral decades. Just as in human surgery, the benefits of laser surgery are significant. The use of a laser during surgery controls bleeding better, and reduces post operative swelling and speeds recovery by reducing post operative pain. We wouldn't want anything less for our pets or yours SPAYING YOUR FEMALE PET |
Thank you JeanM1963, This is exactly what my vet had shared w/ me ...good to hear someone has been through it and all was fine. I am getting my 5 year old male neutered soon, going to do one at a time. I should have had him done by now , but I was so scared of putting him to sleep , I had a neighbor whose Yorkie died went they put him to sleep. When I talked to my vet he really didn't put me at ease and that along with some other things made me decide to change vets after 5 years. The new vet put my fears to ease and gave me a lot of advice on how that was just a myth that Yorkies have problems w/ being put underand then told me about the Laser procedure and how much easier it is on little dogs and big dogs. So since Philly can get pregnant we are going to do her first and then Dallas is next :) I also love the idea of the onesie..I just talked to the vet and they said NO STICHES.....YAAA! I will need to let Hot Rod's Mommy know I wont be needing the Cone Collar after all. I love this website you guys are such a wealth of knowledge. |

I am very glad that the suggestion that I gave a you about the onesize worked for you. :) Again, it's all up to the person who and how they would like for the babies to be treated. :) |
Hot Rod' Mommy , I respect your opinion , and you know since it's been awhile it may have even been something new and your Vet wanted to wait and see how it goes before trying it on one of her own patients ...Thats how I feel about a lot of things. I still value your information...and appreciate your feedback anytime :wavey: |
There is practically no bleeding in Lazer. It is the safest method, my girl is schedule pretty soon. Oh, please research anesthesia and have them stitch instead of staple if possible. If you have a nice vet have him do an inside stitch (almost no mark ;)). |
