Pippo hit his head...help!!! Help!!! My husband is home and called me in a panic saying that Pippo (our younger yorkie, 1 year 4lbs.) Is laying on his back with his tongue out and eyes rolling back. I flipped out and so did he! Calling the vet...who was no help! He is now ok, just a little lazy. What had happend was there was someone at the door so Teddy (our older 10lb yorkie) and Pippo both started to run to the door but Teddy leaped over Pippo up a small step and that made Pippo slam imto the foot of the step. That is when my husband saw him laying there. A few minutes after he said he was starting to walk around and respond as usual. I am just so worried. I would hate to ignore it and him have somthing wrong. I am also thinking that he just got knocked out or the wind knocked out of him. Does anyone have any advice for me of what to watch for or if i do have to take him in. It has been about an hour since and my husband says he is acting almost totally normal...barking, eating a treat, getting excited. I am sorry that was kind of scrambled but my mind is all over the place. I just dont know??? |
For my own peace of mind, I would take him in just to be checked out. Better now, than later this evening, when you would have to go to the ER vet. |

Oh couldn't agree more! They are known for hiding their pain so PLEASE go to the vet immediately. I have read too many heartbreaking stories on hear and he is just so little. This being a head injury worries me more than any other type---his tongue and eyes the way you described had me shaking. |

A couple summers ago my husband decided to go to get an ice cream and he took the dogs. He stopped at a friends shop and left the dogs in the truck. When he opened the door to get in, Harley fell out (he drives a full size 4-wheel drive pickup) and landed on his head. He knocked himself out! My husband rushed him to the vet but by the time he got there, he had come to. The vet checked him out, could find nothing wrong and said to just watch him. Husband said it was the most expensive ice cream he ever got. But Harley was fine. |
Sorry, let me go on. I had the dogs up on the bar stool with me and Harley fell off and hit his head and just cried and cried! He wouldn't walk, wouldn't stand up or anything. I'm running around hollering "We're going to the vet!" Husband is like, wait a few minutes and let's see. So there's Harley, laying on the bed, all limp and pitiful. Husband says "hey babies, wanna go bye-bye?" Harley jumps up, jumps off the bed and runs for the door! He was milking it for all he was worth!! So, not every fall warrants a vet visit, sometimes a little time will take care of it. Of course, if time doesn't then to the vet we go. Sadly, Harley is gone now, but he sure was a baby. |
Sherile, I agree. Lastnight was one of the scariest nights of our lives...especially because i was not there (AHHH!!!) But the vet said he must have just gotten knocked out. It was the same as your first story with your truck. all of a sudden he snapped out of it. It is such a scary thing when you have no clue what to do or whats going on. Thank you sooooo much for all the input and great advice. reading it made me just feel soo much better. I love you allll!!!! |
