Kennel cough? Reverse sneezing? Ok I watched both videos and I can't tell. My puppy started coughing and sneezing Monday (she was at the vet on Sunday) and today it's worse. I called the vet earlier but NY got a blizzard today and I didn't want to take her out unless I really had to. She is still running around playing and eating no problem so they told me it could wait til tomorrow but I'm worried. She just woke up gagging a little then started running and I realized she peed in her sleep. Any ideas??? I'm getting her to the vet as soon as they open in the morning. |

Yes, and her cough doesn't sound like either of those. When she woke up coughing her mouth was wet (she was next to me so I noticed right away). After she's done coughing she pants. |

did she have kennel cough vaccine recently? as they can get pneumonia from kennel cough |
I agree with Dwerten- kennel cough can turn into pneumonia- but i'd be surprised if it happend that fast. did she get the kennel cough vaccine? She could develop kennel cough FROM the vaccine. I would say it is not reverse sneezing as that tends to be a "dry" noise. Layla had kennel cough- what an awful awful sound- i found that a warm air humidifier helped- if you don't have one- turning on a hot shower and holding her int he bathroom is helpful. The peeing in her sleep - she is a puppy you said- so it probably isn't related- just an accident. |
She was at the vet 3 days ago and he said her heart sounded good so I don't think she has a heart murmur but can't be positive. She had a kennel cough vaccine 4 weeks ago. I'm starting to think maybe an upper respitory infection? I don't know how quick that would happen but I'm noticing she has a runny nose. I'm just hoping she's not worse by tomorrow. |

Well we are back from the vet and he said looks like the beginings of Kennel Cough and an upper respitory infection. He said luckily so far the congestion is only in her throat it hasn't reached her chest. He gave her a shot of antibiotic and sent her home with some and said to give her Robitussin for her cough. He told me to give her some maple syrup, honey or molasses until she starts eating again. I feel so bad her breathing still sounds a little raspy, but he said to just keep an eye on her and call him tomorrow with an update, unless of course she appears to be getting worse then come right back. Thanks again for everyones help. |

what shot did he give covenia? |
How soon before she is back to normal energy wise? She has just slept the whole day, she hasn't eaten anything so I have been giving her the maple syrup like the vet suggested. I know I'll be calling the vets office in little while, I want to check in with them before they close. I am honestly not sure which antibiotic he gave her in the shot, I know he sent her home with Septra. |

I'm so worried my poor little Zoey still looks terrible, all she has done all day is sleep. I switched to the honey as suggested (Thanks Dwerten), but she still won't eat or drink. She only got up once to pee. I've called the vet 3 times since I was there this morning and he told me to relax, give the medicine time, let her rest, and if she is still not awake and eating tomorrow to bring her back. I can't relax, I feel terrible. I'm checking on her every 5 minutes, I will not be getting any sleep tonight!!!!! :( |

Convenia Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim Antibiotic Tablets For Cats and Dogs - 1800PetMeds you need to get her to drink though food is not as critical but water is critical -- check her gums to make sure not sticky if sticky go to er as that is dehydration. take some ice cubes to get her to lick them and you can get some low sodium organic broth at whole foods make some ice cubes have her lick that and see if she will drink more water after as it has sodium to entice water consumption |
i agree with the ice cubes- you can always put some fruit juice in her water (just not grape). When Layla won't drink i use an eye dropper and more or less force it in her- sometimes she needs a reminder- THIS is what you need- i know better- and once she starts to understand what i'm giving her- she gets more on board. Hang in there- you know what it is like to feel crappy- and that is how she feels. Give the meds time and just keep forcing the water on her the best you can. even if it is drop by drop off of your finger. |
I'm sorry I really don't remember what the shot he gave her was called (I'm usually really good at remembering these things, but not today). I checked her gums they're not sticky (the vet also showed me that today). She won't drink or lick anything but I'm rubbing water on her gums. She just got up and ran in the other room to poop (had a little trouble, but went), at least she got up and walked around a little. Hopefully thats a good sign???? |

Zoey is doing better today she got up this morning and walked around a little. I got her to eat some nutri-cal and she took a couple bites of food. She's still a little sluggish but at least she's alert. I'm so happy. Except of course the vet called me today and told me he found a parasite in her stool so tomorrow she starts another medication. Well as long as she gets better that's all that matters. Thanks again everyone. |

I don't know yet, I'm going to pick it up in the morning. The vet said we could wait a day before starting her on anything new so she could get some strength back. |
