vet at lunch need help asap!!! I took MichaelAngelo for shots and they gave him the DHPPV and a new one which was the Bordetella. He did fine last time with the DHPPV but I think he may be having an allergic reation to the other. His eyes look swelled and ears blood red what can I do??? I am freakin out!!! |
I think I would take him back in. Be there at the door when they get back from lunch.Or call a diff vet and see what they say. I would be afraid if his eyes are swelling that his airway might be also. |
Is there an emergency vet center near you? Does your vet have a tech/assistant at the office? |
All vets around here closed for lunch its 12:35 and they dont open back up til 2:00 His breathing doesn't look distressed for what I can tell. The emergency vet is 45 min away. |

Keep us posted how your little one is doing. |
Thanks and I will hes just laying around you call his name and he will look at you. its so sad im heartbroken. going to get off here and stay with him will update later after taking him back. |
Benadryl should be given immediately. |
Do you have any Benadryl on hand? |
Ok he is four pounds how much should I give? |
i agree with the benedryl it is 1mg per pound - is there not an er vet you can call as they can walk you through it over the phone - get to the vet as well when they open - poor baby - they should not have given all that in one day :( the bordatella shot is stronger than intranasal - it last 1 year and intranasal 6 mos i believe :( also keep in mind the next vaccine will be much worse after reacting to this one so make sure vet discusses with you as some have to give benedryl before vaccines to make sure no reaction |
I agree call an er vet and ask dose for Beydryl and give it to him and head for the vets office so you are there when they reopen. Hope he is ok. |
It is an allergic reaction bring him to the vet ASAP. When Pixie got her shots the vet told me to sit in his office for 20 minutes and look for redness of the ears and swollen face bc that was a sign of an allergic reaction. maybe he just needs a shot of benydral. Daisy always gets a shot before a vaccination bc she always has a reaction. Good luck. |
Update Gave him the benadryl and run him up to vet. They said he would be okay that he looked like he was getting over it(which his eye swelling has went down and ears are normal) but still flapping his ears some. Thanks everyone I will be more cautious next time, believe me. You guys are awesome thanks so much again!!! |
Great news! Glad that he is ok. |
That must have been so scary!!! I'm glad everything's ok! |

wow glad he is okay just so you know my vet said if they have one allergic reaction they will have another so ask for an allergy shot before he gets more vaccines soo glad he is okay |
Good news. I am glad your baby is doing much better. |
so glad your little one is doing ok in regards to bordatella does your dog go to dog parks, doggy day care, groomer, etc? as a vet tech on our other group does not give bordatella to her dogs and just treats if they get kennel cough as the bordatella shot nor intranasal does not cover all strains so they can still get it even if vaccinated. If you are not doing the above things i really would not do that vaccination anymore - also since your dog has reacted like this look into titering instead of vaccinating and rabies is the only one required by law every 3 years - other vaccines should not be given more than every 3 years either after 1 year booster dogs with reactions like this I would go real conservative with vaccinations and maybe your vet can give you a waiver for rabies vaccination as well so ask about that the next vaccination can be worse just heads up |

Well he will be taken to a groomer because I cant do anything with him. Now Bells my other yorkie will sit still thru just about anything you want to do clip nails, clean ears, brush, shave butt. But MichaelAngelo doesnt want you to do those things he is a very nervous dog. I hate to take him to groomer as I do Bells myself. But things need to be done and he moves around like your killing him before you even do anything he is hard to hold still. He does fine getting a bath but that is the only thing I can do with him. I have Multiple Sclerosis and cant really hold to him as he moves about. Vet said he will grow out of that as he gets use to us. I got him at the first of December so we will see. |
Another thing. I am asking more advice. Should I give him any more Benadryl later on if he still itchy? If so how long do I wait? |
