Pooping blood again! Vet cannot find anything wrong. Everytime we go on vacation both of our :aimeeyorkbabies:aimeeyork get sick. They love going, but the vet thinks they still are stressed(excited). Within a week of coming back they are pooping blood. We take them to the vet and they get on antibiotics. The oldest got well quick but the lil' one will go one day and be OK and the next day pooping blood again. She seems playful at times and eats well. They both have sensitive tummies so they both eat Science Diet(ID). Has anyone tried the probiotics? I need help! Thanks! :aimeeyorkJ-9:aimeeyork |
it sounds like stress colitis - yellow jelly poop with blood in it :( Probiotics will work - i use dds plus from vitamin shoppe Dds-Plus Capsules by U.A.S.Laboratories - UA-1010 - at The Vitamin Shoppe if this does not work then when you get back from trips do tylan powder for a week after that is a mild antibiotic but bitter tasting so you may have to have compounded by compounding pharmacy with some chicken flavoring - ask vet about it - it is less of an antibiotic than metronidazole |

Thanks so much! I will check that out. We are getting ready to go to vet now. J-9:aimeeyork |
Yeah, just 2 weeks ago me and mine were at the vets for it seems like ever recurring diarrhea. So we're on new (not tried before) antibiotics, and the vet prescribed probiotics. So I got home and curious me looks this specific product up online, and much to my amazement, it says this product can prevent diarrhea! By keeping the gut infused with a supply of 'good' bacteria, the 'bad' bacteria cannot get a good hold on the system and goes away with the poop. So far doggies have not had 1 bout of diarrhea... and I put all of them on it! For life!:D |

What exactly are probiotics?? My Lexie is just recovering from liver issues - she is doing extremely well and has been on Baytril for about 2 weeks and put her on Hills L/D (she loves the food); now vet says she has colitis (which her stools do indicate), so he started her on 14 days of Metronidazole. I have cut out all treats, but are there "natural" treats that she can have??? Quote:

what are the bat numbers? |
I do not know her "numbers" as the vet just said they were almost "normal" and I don't know what mvd is. He did say, however, she does not have a liver shunt. Since she has been on the antibiotics and L/D food, she has gained 1 1/2 lbs. She does still occasionally have diarrhea (and that's when we found out about the colitis); took a fecal sample in and no other worms, parasites or problems showed up in the fecal sample. |
blood in poop I need some help or reassurance. Belle got up this morning and pooped a big pile then she pooped some slimy clear stuff like egg white with blood in it. She would not eat anything I offered her but she was doing zoomies and chasing her brother all over. Every once in a while she would try to poop and it would just be the slimy stuff and a couple drops of bright red blood. This afternoon I gave her a bath and tried to express her anal gland but nothing came out. She started eating then and seems to feel fine. She just pooped a little again and there were a few more blood drops. My DH and I have noticed that she has been dragging her butt across the carpet for the last week or so. I have a feeling it's her anal gland but I just panic when I think there is something wrong with her after losing my Schnauzer. I can't make it through losing another baby. Any advice would be appreciated. |
I am using VSL#3 for TJ who's IBD is acting up again after 3 good normal years and for Roxy who has liver issues MVD. It is a probiotic for humans with IBD. You can buy it online at their website. I give 1/20 th of the little packet every morning mixed with a tiny bit of yogurt. |

MVD get a copy of all blood work and vet records and keep in file at home always as if your baby has an emergency you need those records so they do not retest for no reason my dog has mvd with no symptoms and she is on 18% protein so dogs with no symptoms of mvd can be on 22% or lower food and dogs with symptoms 18% protein and does not necessarily have to be L/D with no symptoms -keep in mind alot of vets are not real familiar with liver shunt and mvd join this group to learn more about it http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/L...d_MVD_Support/ |
